It's been a long time since I've posted here, but I know you are all a great group of people and if the power of prayer works, this is the place to come to. If there is somewhere new to post this, please let me know.

My nephew was diagnosed with Ewing's Sarcoma this past January. He has an 8 mm tumor growing from his Fibula. Today, he finished his 4th round of chemo. The doctor's will do surgery on April 15th to remove the bone from the knee down. They will rebuild his kneecap and haven't decided on how they will replace the bone. It will be either with a metal rod or some kind of synthetic bone or part donor bone. He will then go through another 6-8 months of chemo after the surgery to make sure all the cancer cells are gone.

He went in for the pre-surgery tests on Monday. He had an X-Ray, MRI, CT & bone scan. Thought all was good, but SIL called and said there's a spot on his lung. The doctor's have decided they will not address this until after they do the leg surgery. They will biopsy sometime after the surgery, determine what it is and then if it's cancerous, change his chemo and start again.

What do you say to a kid that turned 14 years old last month? His spirits are great, he still has a smart mouth, he still wants to go to school (which he didn't like before January), but everytime I see him, I just want to take him in my arms, cry my eyes out and then hope our family wakes up from a really bad dream. I don't know how much to tell my kids. My 10 yo son asked if he was going to die. Before the tests on Monday, I was positive he would come through with flying colors. If he asked me today, I'm not sure what I'd tell him.

Well, now that I'm typing through tears, I just ask that you say a prayer for him. Every little bit helps.

Thanks-

Joyce

I just said a prayer and will continue each day.

Oh dear....:( I'll say a prayer for him.

I'll say a prayer for him and your family.

Hi Joyce. It is nice to see you again, but wish it was a happier return for you. A big {hug} for being a good, caring aunt. Your nephew will be in my prayers and my best wishes for him, along with strength for his family, including you guys.

If you think it might be of any comfort to you, just letting you know we are having a DIS meet up in Gurnee on the 12th and and a pizza dinner the night before, on the 11th, in Rolling Meadows. Maybe it might be good to see some friends for a bit. Just passing it on. If interested, sned me a PM or email.

Hugs,

Dan

First of all, let me say THANK YOU to all of you who are keeping my nephew in your prayers.

My nephew, Chris, finished his fourth round of chemo and was getting ready for surgery. He underwent the necessary tests, x-ray's, etc. only for the doctor to find that the tumor has not shrunk at all in four rounds of chemo. He told my SIL he has NEVER seen this happen before. Dr said that Ewing's always shrinks so he doesn't know why this one has not. They re-tested the original biopsy to triple triple check to make sure this is Ewing and not Osteosarcoma. It's Ewings. So, his doctor is going to St. Jude's for a meeting and is bringing Chris' information with him to discuss with all the other doctor's there. I asked my SIL if Chris would be better off at St. Jude's and apparently they are doing the same study there that he is in here. Please keep the doctor's in your prayers, too, so that they may find something that was missed.

Thanks again,

Joyce
