We are having a little fun resort hopping after Christmas...3 nights...3 different resorts (one nigh each). Can the dining plan be adding to a one night stay?

Thanks!

Yup, they are separate reservations, so they're not connected. Go with the Deluxe! You can totally stretch that out over 2 days and make out very well on it. That's about the only time I can figure that a dining plan makes sense - Deluxe on a 1-2 night stay. And if you do it on the first night, you get the mug which will be good for 2 weeks.

Used 1 night QS DP this trip at GFV. Worked well. For the 2 of us. Used for two QS meals, 1 at Peco Bill's 1 at seasons at Epcot. Used the other 2 meals for 6 snacks at Food and Wine. With mugs values and higher end snack credits at FW we had approx $115+ of value. This scenario for our usage is one of the few times it makes dollar sense for us.

Can I jump in and ask a few questions? I am also thinking of doing this at Easter. We have one night at AKL, 3 BWV, 3 VGF. We also have TiW. I am trying to figure out if this is a good idea for us as well. I was thinking about getting it for the AKL stay. We arrive around 5:30 to AKL, dinner at Jiko, breakfast at Boma the next day, and dinner at Beaches and Cream that night. I have never done the dining plan. If I use it at B&C does that apply towards any dessert? I am just trying to make sure that if I do this, I don't screw it up :) The mugs will then be good for the rest of our stay? Can the kids get milk in the mug? My kids (9,6) only drink milk and water.

I am going to go back and review the different plans, but hoping to get a user's perspective as well :)

OP - your trip sounds like a lot of fun! Which resorts did you choose?

Mugs only get you soda, coffee or tea. No milk or juice. You could do one night deluxe plan for your one night AKV stay (if you are staying on points). If you aren't staying on points, you have to follow their rules, include tickets, rack rate, etc. At Beaches and Cream, you can get some of the desserts, but not the Kitchen Sink.

If you choose the delux dining plan for the 1 night, that gives you 3 TS credits. Jiko=2 credits, Boma=1 credit and Beaches and Cream =1 credit. You will have to drop either Boma or B&C. I'm pretty sure Jiko is a signature.

Thank you Both!

We are staying on points, so now I will have to figure out if the Deluxe is the best option. Is that what you would do, or would you just bag it all and use the TiW the entire time? My kids want the kitchen sink, but that thing is waaaayyyyy too big for the 4 of us!

Jiko is 2 credits, but maybe it would be better to use TiW for that and the other credits for the other 2? Ugh, I wish my one night stay was over Easter, that would make this a little easier since Easter is blacked out for TiW...

Was just going to look fora thread like this. Planning a trip in May with a split stay. If all works according to plan, will have the ddp for the first stay of two nights. Only doing it because we would most likely do the mugs as this is an extended trip, so this saves us quite a bit.

As noted yes, getting the deluxe plan for the middle day would give you the option if using it against as many as 6 main meals and 2 full days to use the snack credits. For my wife and I that would mean the deluxe plan with 2 sit down early lunches and 2 signature dinners with sharing or something similar.

We don't know the rest of your plans but here's a thought. The Deluxe plan has the ability to give you the most savings. Having more time during a day (esp arrival and departure) to use more credits can add value as can a shorter stay if you plan accordingly. What about getting the Deluxe Plan for the 3 days in the middle. IF you check in to the new resort early AM (even if you can't get in the room), your credits would be active starting then. You'd have 4 full days to use 12 credits and 6 snacks per person. Or you could even get the Quick service or Basic Plan for the day of arrival and the deluxe plan for the next 3 days as an example of other options.

I often choose my first night or two nights on a two week stay at a different resort and add the DDP, most often deluxe.

It's a great choice as we share meals easily, actually buy choice not trying to save credits, and one day often spreads across three (the third day being CS takeout used late second day if anything left).

So when you are doing a split stay, you have to go and physically check in to the other resort before you can use the credits? We are staying at AKL, going to AK that day, then going home to BWV. I don't think going back and forth would work out. I do like the idea of using the DDP on days and places where TiW is not accepted (Easter day, O'Hana, Yak and Yeti). Hmmmm...

We (two adults) once did a three-night Premium Plan in the middle of a nine-night stay (using points at OKW), booking a campsite at rack rate (the cheapest accommodation on the PP) and not even visiting it:

-We had entitlements for four days, nine meals
-We loaded up on tours, water sports, and meals/shows that included tip (HDDR, CRT)
-We did this while Cirque du Soleil was dark (May), and each got $90 Gift Cards
-We ate at mostly Signature places, as the entitlement meal points are for ANY restaurant, regardless of number of points on the regular DDPs
-We used the obligatory MYW 2-day pass to apply the amount to our next DVC AP renewal

We could've checked out of OKW and into the campsite (or stayed offsite) rather than use our points for those three nights, but we had to draw the line somewhere. :rolleyes1

That's the way we've done it. I can't honestly say when the credits go on the band if you simply do online check in and wait. My guess is not until after you're checked out of the first room if moving reservations at the earliest. Maybe someone else knows for sure how that works now.

I saw someone just posted that you have to use up all of your credits by 11:00 AM on checkout day when you are doing a split stay. I have never heard that. Is that true? That seems like a piece of information I would have heard at some point in all my years of researching this stuff :)

Technically no, they are good till midnight but I could see how it'd be an issue on the bands. A couple of ways to deal with this issue and the bands limitation might be to list under different names such as first name for one reservation and middle name or initials for the other and have 2 sets of bands. Another would be to gert cards for each room. Both of these options should help with the early check in option as well. I'm sure this will be a moving target with varying experiences.

Thanks Dean! I will ask MS to get something clear before I actually purchase. That would totally stink otherwise!

The problem I see is that I don't believe MS will be able to give you a clear cut answer and if they do, it might end up not being accurate. I'd look for those on this or other boards who have direct experience.

My husband and I are staying at SS in February for 10 nights. I have never purchased the dining plan and was wondering if I could purchase just 3 days for our 10 night stay? And if I do, would I be able to use the credits over the 10 days? I expect the answer is No, but thought it would be worth asking.

Thanks,

You cannot purchase 3 days and spread it over the 10 days, but if you were splitting your stay (reservation for 3 nights and 6 nights) you could purchase for the 3 night reservation, but the credits would have to be used by Midnight on checkout day of that reservation.
