Maybe :) If you book your trip through Disney or a travel agency as a magic your way vacation WITH hotel and tickets, then yes, you should be able to add the dining plan later to your package. If you book a room-only reservation, then you'll need to rebook it as a package to get the dining plan (meaning, you'll need to add tickets too). If you are DVC or renting DVC points, then you can add dining without buying a ticket.

We booked a MYW vacation package- room and tickets. Later, after I got all the ADRs I wanted and realized the value of the plan for my family, I called and was able to add dining with absolutely no problem.

I was planning on buying my park passes now, one of the ticket places has a good deal going on and then booking my room later and adding dining but I guess I can't do that? :guilty:

At this point, no you can't. UNLESS...you rent DVC points for your stay.

Hope, unless you buy at least a one day ticket to make the room reservation a package, but with that you'll probablty loose any saving you were making on the other tickets.

Couldn't she purchase her off-site ticket for 1 day less? (Instead of 7 days-purchase for 6 days. Then purchase 1 day with the package deal? :scratchin )

She could, but she so still loosing out that way, as the amount she is saving is unlikey to cover that6 day.

No. The Disney Dining Plan can ONLY be purchased in conjunction with a package.

If you reserve a room (only), and at a different time - either before or after - purchase your tickets from anyplace other than Disney, you do/will/can NOT qualify for the DDP.

If you reserve a package now that consists of your room nights PLUS at least a one-day base pass for each person on your reservation (and it has to be the same ticket, and can't be an AP), then yes, you can add the DDP later but at least five - I think - days before you arrive. Of course, you'd have to pay for it at that point. It can't be added on arrival.

Also, if you do purchase a package that includes the DDP, you are required to get it for ALL persons on your reservation for the same number of nights of your stay.
