Thinking of DVC and wondering if DVC points can be used to stay at the other Disney resorts like Poly, CBR etc etc?
I have been trying to find a points chart regarding the "other" resorts and cannot. If the points CAN be used at the other resorts, where can I find such a chart!
Thanks in advance!

Yes, you can. However, the points-per-night cost is very high compared to DVC resorts.

Ok, where can I find a points chart? And we would be able to stay at a moderate resort if we wanted too?

Yes, but it's not worth it. By the time you pay for the points (and they will be higher for moderate than a studio or maybe even a one bedroom) plus the $95 fee, you could probably have paid for it with cash directly to Disney.

Yes, you can stay at a moderate resort with DVC points, but I"m not sure why you'd want to. It is far cheaper to stay in a studio at a DVC property and, IMO, you get much more "bang for your buck". We've used our points to stay at the Disneyland resorts but feel it's a waste of them to stay at non-DVC WDW resorts.

Just my $.02.

i'd also add that point costs for moderates and other disney hotels are not fixed and can increase across the board from year to year.

I'll give you a couple of examples, using the resorts you mentioned.

Point cost for a garden view room at the Poly for a weeknight (Sun-Thurs) ranges from 38 in the cheapest season to 60 in the most expensive. Weekend nights (Fri-Sat) range from 69 to 107. That's for ONE NIGHT.

For CBR or any of the other moderates, the weeknight/weekend points range from 17/31 to 24/42. For one night. For a small room with double beds, and no balcony.

By comparison, a one bedroom villa at VWL, with a master bedroom with a king bed and jacuzzi, a full kitchen and washer/dryer ranges from 22/45 to 40/75.

DVC's value is in use of points at the DVC resorts, as you can see. chalee94 mentioned an important additional point - the point costs for non-DVC resorts are renegotiated every year, and the generally go up every year. There's no cap whatsoever on the point costs for non-DVC resorts, so in time you could find that you no longer have enough points to stay at Poly, for example.

Some members will occasionally use points at the non-DVC resorts if they have a lot of points to use up, or for a special occasion. But if you're planning on regular stays at the non-DVC resorts, I think you'll find it's a very poor value.

I just wanted to add that if YOU want to use your points to stay at a non-DVC Disney resort (called "Disney Collection") - that is YOUR choice. If you are aware of the "logical/financial" impact and still want to do it, by all means, don't decide not to simply because that is what the members of DIS say. After all, it's your money, and your vacation. Some people would say, "why spend extra money on a view" or "why spend extra money for a deluxe vs. moderate." It's all a personal decision and you can do what you want with your own money/points.

:)

Here are some numbers...draw your own conclusions...

SSR resale, 75 points for $5500
Add $400 for closing costs
45 years worth of points remaining
=$1.75 per point over the remaining life of the contract

2009 Annual Dues at SSR = $4.34/point

To stay August 3-7 (4 nights, Mon-Thur) in a standard room at the CBR = 68 points

Add in the $95 exchange fee and your total cost using DVC points comes to: $ 509.12

Now, Disney has a special going on right now...

Booking the same room at the same resort via the WDW website will cost $535.52.

=========================================================

So, in this particular case, you CAN save money by using DVC points for this specific reservation.

Me, personally, if I were going to use up 68 points, I would prefer to stay those same 4 nights in a savanna view studio room at AKV-Kidani:thumbsup2.
