Can/Does DVC get involved legally?

I have already emailed Tinkrbell, but the same thing happened to me last November. I rented from someone from the rent boards and then never got the confirmation in the mail like promised. I emailed and emailed. No response. I was becoming quite worried. It was turning into months. I then posted onto the rent board my concerns and behold someone else was going through the same thing with the same renter! I finally had to call them several times to get the confirmation faxed, they never did send the hard copy like they stated they would. Of course, we have now bought in, but if I was ever to rent again I learned a few things -
Never pay in full up front, pay a deposit, then the balance once you receive the confirmation in a timely matter.
Always have a contract.
And is the renter willing to give referrals?
I felt better after the 30 day mark came and I knew the renter would be heavily penalized if they cancelled, but I did call MS
every two weeks or so to make sure the ressie was still there. To be honest, I was scared going up to the desk checking in. Alas, everything was fine, but I totally understand Tinkrbells's concerns! Although it was the first time I had rented, I do truly believe the majority of renters are good people and I would have rented again, but I would be a bit more wise.
Usually I think the renting arrangements are much more scary on the renter's part than the rentee's in most cases.
Good luck!

Shan, I sent you a PM.

Tinkrbell, I am going through the same thing as you right now. I rented points in march for a trip in October (I have since become a member). The renter will not send me a confirmation!:( I wonder if we are dealing with the same person???

Wow! I never expected so many reply's. Thanks to everyone for easing my mind.

I have not been emailing the renter daily, weekly or anything like that. I emailed back in Mar/Apr regarding a general DVC question, and received no responce. And again just in May regarding finalizing of payment, and again no response. I'm not asking for a conversation, just an acknowledgment of receipt. My check has not yet been cashed. So I'm a little worried if they haven't recieved it, moved, whatever, and then cancel on me. Stating breach of contract.

Caskbill- I'll try to do a receipt like you suggest, thanks for the tutoral. I've always wondered how to do that.

Oh, so they haven't even cashed the check yet? And it was just a deposit? Worse case you could try to find another renter who would be willing to check the dates first, then stop payment on the check (After emailing the renter first.). This sounds a little more weird than my situation I had. The person I rented from just didn't have the time or want to deal with it I think. This almost sounds like your renter has fallen off the planet! I hope they are OK! Wow... They won't even respond back about final payment? Do you have a phone number? I'm assuming you have their name if you called MS to check to see if the ressie was still there. Anyone???

Do you have a phone number?

If they haven't cashed the check and haven't responded to a question about payments, then I think I would skip the e-mail and place a phone call. If they aren't getting your e-mails and might not have gotten your check, they may think you've disappeared.

I'm sorry, I guess I wasn't clear on that last one.

They haven't cashed the FINAL payment. The majority of the payment I had already made as a dept. was cashed months ago (Dec) and I did hear from them back then. In our contract they wanted the final payment by 6/1.
