what other online auctions do people use?
do you use expedia or travelocity?

trying to get a good deal on a hotel for 2 nights in orlando and 1 night in seattle (park n fly would be great)

any suggestions?

things seem so expensive when you convert to cdn although getting better with the dollar rising!

thanks
amy

I use priceline all the time. My other favorite is Skyauction.

Sorry to dig this thread up from deadthread land, but I'm trying to get on to Priceline and according to their FAQs, I can live in Canada BUT I need to use a credit card with a US billing address. When I try to register, where you put an address, it's a pulldown with US states only and it doesn't like my postal code.

Hockey Mom and Matsterrocks, do you have any tricks for getting by this registration page? Or do I need to beg my mom in Florida for a loan of her credit card? :charac2:

Hoping in Halifax,
Northstar

On that website, there is ways around it for Canadians (or non-US residents anyway). I have booked through Priceline and used my Canadian credit cards before. It can be done!

Hi Northstar,

I've used Priceline many times and I live in Ottawa. I just make up a US address and use my Amex card (which is a Canadian card). I guess their computer systems aren't sophisticated enough (or they don't care) to distinguish between US and Canadian credit cards.

Before you bid, definitely go to www.biddingfortravel.com and check what the recent successful bids are for the city you want to book. Read the FAQ on bidding as well so you don't miss out on free rebids.

I do exactly what DisFan2 does and I live just outside Toronto. I always use 90210 as my zip code and smile everytime I do it! Actually, I just used Priceline yesterday for our Disneyland California trip in 18 days. Familiarize yourself with the "zones" and know when you can re-bid. Two years ago we got the DTD Hilton for $65/USD/night which was a great price for what we got. Here is something I learned this summer, they cannot bump you down a category but they can bump you up. We were bidding for a hotel in the 4* category and got a resort level instead for the peice we were bidding. It was good and bad because we got a very nice hotel but the location was further away than any of the 4*s were from where we wanted to be. Just a little bit of info.

Use your correct address and city (so it will match the ID you provide at check-in). However, for State use "CA", and zip code "99999". Also, Priceline will not accept (unless it has changed in the past year) Canadian Visa cards. However, Canadian Amex and Mastercard are usable.

That's it. I used my own address because I did want proof at check-in but the zip code I used was 99999 (as instructed in the website to get around priceline policy). Thanks OntFamily.

Good luck

Thanks! I may be out of luck as I only have a Visa. CA 99999... who would have thought we'd all end up in California! :p

Amex offers a no annual fee card (and it collects Air Miles). Also, there are many MBNA Mastercards with no annual fees (I ordered the MBNA Starwood card - with 10,000 Starwood points after using it at one Starwood property -- and it arrived less than one week after requesting it online).

Northstar:

I also live in Nova Scotia and have had no problem with using Priceline. We have beenvusing it for our April trip with no problems. i also use 90210 for my zip.

Use Hotwire. It is just as good and you can use your Canadian Visa. If you go to www.betterbidding.com you can usually determine exactly the hotel you are getting.

Quick update... Priceline didn't turn up its nose at my RBC Visa! Apparently Visa is now okay, too. They didn't accept my bid, though. Oh, well, will try again next week.

Canadian Visa's aren't refused until the final part of the billing process (when they try to post a charge to the account). If your bid wasn't accepted, Priceline never checked the validity of the Visa number.

Thanks, Ontfamily. That would be a major letdown. Oh well, at least I got some practice in the bid process. Will have to ask Mom in Florida if I can use her card... we'll end up doing some weird thing where I buy her something on MY card, and she lets me use hers for Priceline.

Canadian VISA cards used to not work on PriceLine, but that changed about 12 months ago. Canadian VISA cards work just fine now.
