My family was hoping to join DVC with my sister's family who now reside in Alberta, Canada. My sister called DVC recently to request the informational video, but was told that option was not available to Alberta, though for some odd reason it was availabel to Ontario.

I understand for jurisdictional reasons, Disney may not wish to market directly to other countries-- but would this prevent a Canadian or other foreign citizen from buying into DVC?

Canadians can most certainly purchase DVC. LIke the U.S., however, there may be some states or provinces where they cannot market to and sell unless the purchaser makes the trip to FL to check it out and sign. :)

Maybe now we'll get a nice Curling Rink at the Wide World of Sports! ;) [Hey, I grew up watching CBC out of Windsor, Ont.!]

Canadians can and do own DVC -- by the thousands! As CarolAnn points out, it is probably a problem on your end with the government trying to protect you from unscrupulous real estate sales people. As each DVC resort becomes available for sale, DVC has to go through an approval process to sell directly to people in those states/provinces/country. My guess is they are working on approval for SSR which is the only resort they are directly selling right now.

You can always purchase when you are at WDW. In the meantime, you can ask questions here and take a look at www.disneyvacationclub.com. I would check back, especially after SSR opens in May, to see whether DVC could now send you materials.

I don't believe there are any restrictions on buying a resale. If you are not set on SSR as your home resort, you might investigate a resale.

DVC includes many members who are not U.S. citizens. I recall posts from members in the U.K., Brazil, Ecuador, Mexico and of course, Canada and even Austrailia. I'm sure I left out lots of other countries.

Best wishes -

pirate: I believe DVC is only authorised to sell directly to Ontari-ari-ari-o residents at present (probably Québec as well). According to our most excellent guide, the legal costs of setting up so you can sell in a particular jurisdiction need to be covered by a large enough population (of frequent WDW visitors) to make it worthwhile (hence why they are not selling directly in Wyoming or Saskatchewan). She also noted that anyone can buy resale and that anyone can purchase when they are in WDW (and therefore covered by Florida law).:hyper:

I hope this helps
