Can banked points be rented...how do I do that?

I have a question that I would like clarified for my own peace of mind.

I believe we had three points left over from this year that we banked when we returned from our trip in June. Our use year is April. We are planning on banking next April's points into 2003. Of course we can't bank the three remaining points that we banked until 2002. So are these just lost to me or can I try to rent them? If so how do I go about doing that? We have only been owner's for a little over a year and never had to think about this kind of thing before.

You can only bank points once and since those points are now banked they will not be available to rent until april 2002 and will not be allowed to bank again. Yes, you can rent them, but not until then. They will be good to use/rent till 3/31/2003, at which time they will then "be lost". You may have a hard time renting them as others have reported on other threads that this one transaction would limit the 1 per year transfer for each party to another member and that will not be enough to make even a 1 night reservation for someone to avoid this. You may want to consider renting a few extra points and call it a 1 night rental. For roughly a $12 cost on maintenence the 3 points may not be worth all the trouble to you. I know we are going to lose 1 point this year and it's not worth fretting over. As others have pointed out it's too bad we couldn't "donate" points to a just cause like the make a wish foundation or similar. Good luck!

Thanks for answering. I know three points isn't much to lose but I can see how someone might only need a few points for that upgrade or to complete a week and not want to rent too many points. For example, someone might want an OKW grand villa and have 500 points but they still need one more. They could borrow if they have any available or they may want to rent the one point they need. It is always possible someone may need to use their banked, current and borrowed points and still need just a few more. (speaking from our own experience wanting a GV and not having it by 5 points). Anyway, glad to know I do have that option in case I feel like taking the trouble to do so. Thanks!!

Actually it will be extremely difficult to do anything with those 3 points once they are banked. I am assuming you have already banked those three points. They cannot be transfered to anyone as you are prohibited from transfering banked points. The only kind of rental you could do is for you to make a reservation for another using those points. Obviously, you cannot possibly rent a night anywhere with only three points. Thus, the only way to rent those points would be: (a) for the renter to first transfer to you enough points which, with your three, allow you to have enough to reserve a room for a night in the renter's name; it will be difficult to find a renter who wants to do that; or (b) you put up enough points--the three banked plus some current--to reserve a room for a night and then basically rent that night's stay with you making the reservation using your points.
