Can APs be given as a gift from a military person?

We have a niece who is offering to pick up our annual passes when she gets back from Iraq. Is it okay for her to do that and will we be able to use them?

You'll be okay unless they ask you to show some type of military I.D. at guest services when you actually get the AP.

You will definitely have to show an ID. You actually buy a voucher when you go to SOG to get a military AP. You have to show your military ID when you activate your AP (and proof of FL residency if you're buying a Military FL Resident AP). After that, you only need to show your military ID if the machine has trouble reading your biometrics.

whew..I'm glad I didn't have family pick up one for me for a gift when they were down there. I had called and was told they only needed to show the military ID when actually purchasing the voucher. I didn't know they couldn't give them away as a gift.

Same policy as for FL residents. They can't purchase at FL prices and give them to someone in another state either. If they want to give Disney tickets to out-of-staters, they have to purchase the regular tickets to give to them.

The vouchers we got at SOG said absolutely NOTHING on them about being military. My dad bought them for us and then we took them to activate them at DTD. They never asked for any ID. I would have the friend go down to SOG's office and ask to see the vouchers. If there is nothing on there about being military then I don't think there is a problem. The guy at SOG told us that they can't require you to have military ID anymore because not all dependents have the ID's. Not sure how true that is, but we have not had any problems and our actual vouchers and AP's don't look any different than anyone else's.

If it worked for you, great. We have always had to show our IDs. If you didn't, I'm glad to hear it. I however, could not recommend that anyone try this unless I was willing to eat the cost of their APs. JMO, YMMV

ETA: Sounds like others haven't had to show IDs - maybe SOG just doesn't like me ;)

I also have an AP from SOG and I activated it in DTD. I only had to show my drivers licence. I never had to show anything after that. I also have purchased tickets from our local ITT/MWR and never needed to show anything to use them either. Just my experience. Maybe I was just a lucky one.

We stayed at SOG last year, and bought APs for my husband's parents. I'm sure I asked if it was ok (I'm kind of a stickler for rules). I purchased them at SOG and they were never asked for any kind of military id when we traded the vouchers at MK.

I'd call SOG (NOT on a Monday) and ask, as they'd probably be more familiar with the rules than local ticket offices, I'm thinking. Maybe it's an "immediate family" type thing.
