My daughter is really into hunting for Hidden Mickeys. We've done it in all 4 parks and most of the resorts. One place we haven't gotten to yet is Shades of Green. I wasn't sure if they would let us in if we weren't military. Does it work just like the other Disney resorts? Can we just tell the guard we're visiting and be let in or must you be staying there?

I'm not 100% positive but I believe you need a valid military ID to get on the property, just like on military bases.

There is a guard gate where you have to show military id. Same for the SOG parking garage -- you can't enter without showing military id. I haven't been in a few years, so my post may not be up-to-date.

Yes, you have to show Military ID even if you are just visiting/purchasing tickets.

They have Hidden Mickeys there? We've been before, but I hadn't noticed, unless, of course, you count the pool. I just thought because it wasn't a Disney property there wouldn't be many to find.

Shades of Green was built as a Disney property. In fact, that's where I stayed on my first visit to WDW in 1978 when it was the Golf Resort. It later changed names to the Disney Inn before then becoming Shades of Green. Plus, it is on Disney property and has Disney decor. If I'm not mistaken, Disney still owns the property and the military leases it.

Anyway, in Steve Barrett's book, he does list Shades of Green.

To OP. We are military and stay there. You need government/military ID to get past the guard gate. There are only a few mickeys there, one being the pool. There are a few in a USA themed mickey that stands in the lobby. That's the extent of the Disney theming of the resort. It's a beautiful resort and we love it, we have stayed there long before it was military, when it was Disney Inn.

Believe me, your daughter isn't really missing hidden Mickey's if you cant get on Shades propery. :)

On another note....has she found a lot of them on property? My DBF and I have taken up searching for hidden mickeys as of late and really love it. He finds them faster than me though lol. :)

I don't remember her exact count but I'm pretty sure as of last trip, she was well over 800. And I'm sure there will be dozens more in new Fantasyland. We found a few when we were there in August in the areas that were open already.

Actually, the US DoD owns the resort, but leases the land from Disney. No Disney decor, other than the one pool and the Mickey statue that stands in the lobby. there are some few gift items in the AAFES, but that wouldn't really count.

I believe you have to use that entrance for the Palm and Magnolia Golf courses, but I don't know if you have to be on a list or not to enter.
