Can anyone tell me about Soarin'?

We went 2 years ago, and this ride was not there at this time. Is it kind of like a simulator like Star Tours? Is there usually a long wait? We only have a half of one day to do Epcot, but at least it will me on a EMH day on Friday 10/20/06. We (to 40 year olds-no hubbies and no kids on this trip-Yipppee!) plan to MGM in the morning and then hop to Epcot in the mid afternoon) and we are staying on site. Any information you can give would be great!

Thanks Y'All,

Was absolutely amazing ! I think this was my favorite ride at Epcot. The lines were not bad when we were there in May, although we did use FastPass the second time we rode and just flew through the line. It is really hard to describe. I guess you could say it is a bit like a simulator ride, in that you don't actually go anywhere, but through special effects (wind, smells, visual screen) you feel like you're actually flying over California. I swear I actually smelled oranges when we 'flew' over an orange grove ! It is a really great experience that was loved by all members of our group (Me (37), DH (40) DS (8) DS (3) and my Mum (63). I say go for it ! It is well worth it !

There are lines. Soarin' surpassed Space Mountain and the #1 attraction in all of WDW this year.

It's borin'

I really don't see the attraction of this ride at all. :confused3 It's a movie where you sit in a "glider" type seat and they try to give you the "illusion" of hang gliding.

If others like it that's cool with me. It just isn't my cup of tea.

It was a lot of fun. We were there in August and when we got to EPCOT at rope drop, hundreds went immediately to Soarin. We got a FASTPASS and got in line... even at opening, we waited in a 30-minute line. When we left after our FASTPASS, the wait was alrwady 60 minutes.

Also, when we were there, the FASTPASSES were gone by mid-late afternoon.

It was worth it to us because we planned for it first thing in the morning. But I'm not sure if I'd feel the same after a 90-minute wait.

I guess it all depends on crowds when you go, too.

We really enjoyed it. It is not the type of ride you would compare to a big roller coaster experience, it was very differant. Sort of a "reality" ride.
We were at the rope drop on 9/1 and ran for it. The CM's kept it very orderly and we were one of the first to ride that day. I stayed in line with the kids and dh grabbed a fast pass for all of us and then caught up with us. We were able to ride it twice that morning. :thumbsup2

I can tell you that it's had 99% fantastic reviews.

Other than that, I don't know, because I won't be riding for another 6 days!

OMG - SIX DAYS!!! It's just hit me how close our trip is!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I road it at DisneyLand CA's California Adventure park. I thought it was ok. I'd give it a 3.5/5, in other words a little above adverage. I would say its similar to Universal Studios' "Back To the Furture ride" only not as ruff. ;)

Hummm...thanks to all who replied. I think I might really like this one as I loved Star Tours and Mickeys Philharmagic (loved the smell of apply pie). ANyway, would you all recommend going to Epcot FIRST and do this and then skip back to MGM (I have to do ToT and RnR) and then return to Epcot later in the evening (as 10/20/06 is a EMH in the evening at Epcot). Or do you think I should still go to MGM (ride Tot & RnR) first and then head to Epcot and spend the rest of the day/evening there?

Thanks Y'All,

I think you should be ok in October. I was there last week and the longest wait time all day was 30mins which isn't bad at all. Plus 87 people ride the ride at once and they usually have 2 rooms going so it might not even be as long as the wait time posted.

I agree that I think October should be fine. This Tuesday I used Fastpass for my first ride (it said 45 minute wait for standby but the line didn't look that long to me), then when I went back later in the day with my 7 y.o., we decided to chance the displayed 45 minute wait and we waited no more than 15 minutes.

Both of us thought it was an amazing ride. I love ToT, and the all of the big thrill rides, but Soarin' was just amazing - different, more low key, but spectacular and a "not-to-be-missed" in my book from here on out.
