I am in dire need of a TV education and quick!! The only thing DH has wanted for the last 5 Christmas's is a new TV in our bedroom...we still have the old type of traditional tv with the huge, heavy back and where you can't read any of the words or game scores on the edges because the TV does not accomodate the updated rectangular broadcasts...

Plus, it is so old that it has about 12 black lines running across the top of the screen and is only a 25 inch tv. Pretty much the same story in the living room- so I want to get him a flat screen tv for our bedroom...I would like bigger than 31 inches but smaller than 40 inches...and it really needs to have a built in DVD player because we plan to set it on top of the elecrtric fireplace mantle with the stand and there is little room.

I would LOVE to spend less than $400...is this possible? I am searching and reading on Best Buy, HHGregg, Walmart, Target, etc. but I just don't even know about LED vs. LCD? Is that even right?

Please, any help is GREATLY appreciated!:worship:

As far as budget TV's go......Vizio TVs are great. Lower price, nice picture. My sons have a 26" in their room and I personally think it's got a nicer picture than the $$$$$$ 3D Samsung in the living room. I believe they only make LCD's and don't recall seeing one with a built in bluray or DVD. My mom also bought one for my dad last year, 47". I bought my sons at Target, my mom bought theirs at Sam's. They are sold about everywhere.

720 is fine for TV. 1080 is better if you will watch a lot of blurays. LED's are going to win most contests when it comes to picture quality and color clarity. They are also going to be more expensive. But personally I find the LCD TV's just fine, especially as a second TV.

We have a 720p TV in our bedroom because we don't have an HD cable box. I swear by the Sony Bravia's. If you see them next to any other TV they have a more brilliant picture.

My Dad researched this - Vizio from WalMart gets his vote! He wanted one, sent me, I bought the one right next to it - same color box, got it all the way home, Dad looked at it, looked at me - Crap, so I had to take it back! (I measured the area, I think he was going for 36 or 42" flat screen! I was so close, the one I bought was a few inches bigger and $50 cheaper - but nope, had to be Vizio!)

We got a store (meijer) brand in our bedroom. It's about 4 years old and I can see the picture getting darker. The Samsung in our living room is about 3 years old and the picture still looks great.

The bedroom TV is looks bad at off angles (you get ~45 degrees from center that's ok). Think about how you'll use it. Go to Meijer, Walmart, Target, etc. Look at the TVs. Look at them from side angles that you might be using.

Also look at http://www.cnet.com. They'll have reviews on a lot of TVs. Also http://www.avsforums.com. They'll have a forum for the various models and you might find some information there.

DH takes a long time to do research for when we bought our TV's. It comes down to 3 s's for tv's. Samsung, Sharp and Sony make the best TV's. We stir away from Sony due to them no standing behind their product. We had a problem with our 3 year old Samsung and their costumer service was fantastic. We just bought a new 3D TV for our bedroom last month and we went to with another Samsung. Also when we had the guy repair our TV I asked which brand he seems to repair more often his answer was Sony. Of course with that being said the spec of each TV are as important. So you will have to compare refresh rates etc of each model. Good Luck!

if you have Costco, check out their TV selection. They tend to have vizios, and others also at pretty good prices. You'll also have peace of mind about returning without any hassle if you have to. But you'll have to pay tax .. If you're really sure of a model buy from Amazon or online store. I bought mine from amazon. Remember, Amazon also price matches other sellers on Amazon, I prefer buying from amazon instead of the other sellers.
