Can anyone recommend a MiniDV video camera?

We have one of the old 8MM ones. It's about five years old and the batteries don't last long and the quality is pretty bad. So, I'm looking to get a new one and I'd like a MiniDV.

I don't care about taking still pictures, won't do it at all with the video camera. I just want a video camera that has a good battery, good enough quality video, small size, and EASY TO USE. My computer does have a firewire port, though I've never used it.

Thanks!!! :)

I have an older Canon that I love. I would only suggest getting a "cheap" model due to the fact that everything these days is pretty much disposable. Others may disagree, to each his own.

I agree with DizGeek.

For most average home vids, any name brand MiniDv Camera on sale should be more than enough.

You can get a Sony MiniDV camcorder for around $300, or a Digital8 for about $270 and it maybe able to display your old 8mm tapes.

only if you're taking outdoor videos all the time. If you're taking lowlight and indoor videos, you''ll need a camcorder with larger CCD sensor for better low-light performance.
