Can anyone recommend a hotel in Washington, DC?

We are also planning a trip to Washington DC and I found this great website that has a lot of options for condo/apt/home rentals in the area for what seems to be a lot cheaper than hotels and you have a kitchen available.

homeaway.com

It seems legitimate and I did a search on disboards, it seems like people have used it before.

Has anyone stayed at either the Grand Hyatt or the Hyatt Regency on Capitol Hill? We are trying to decide between the two places.

I booked our trip to wash DC about 3 weeks ago. I used priceline name your price for the 1st time ever!! I had read up on it and felt comfortable with the plan--you pick you level of hotel (only put in 3, 3 1/2 or 4 stars to be safe) and then the exact area in a vacation destination. I put in Wash DC, capital area, 31/2 stars. I got the Hyatt regency Capital Hill for $90 a night on Memorial Day weekend. I booked it for Fri,Sat and Sun nights and my total was about $340 with taxes and stuff

FLAngie-we meet again!! I hope you were able to use the gymbucks I sent you :yay:

I see we are both headed to DC!! Please see my post about the deal I just got! I was so happy because the hotel was getting to be the budget buster for the trip. I figured we would not be able to go on a vacation this year BUT the priceline deal made it work:thumbsup2

I figured that all the museums and the zoo are free so you can't beat DC. also will be very moving to be there for Memorial Day weekend.

So far we have been twice & stayed in two different areas outside of D.C. When just me & DH went we stayed at the Holiday Inn on Eisenhower in Alexandria. I only paid $67 with my entertainment card rate. No free breakfast, but free parking & we walked about a block to the metro.

The second time we took the kids (would have loved to stay at the same place, but they won't sleep 5) and we stayed at Springhill Suites in Fairfax. Very nice hotel with free hot breakfast & free parking. The metro was a short drive & if you go on the weekend parking is free. I paid $99. We are going again on March 5th and will stay at Springhill Suites again. I just hope they aren't working on the metro lines this time. Last time it took us forever because we had to switch off so much. Oh & plus there is an awesome pizza place around the corner that we all loved.

I really would like to stay closer, but I just don't want to pay the higher price plus pay to park at the hotel. Also, I would NEVER want to drive in D.C.:scared1: That is just crazy stuff.

I don't park there so no fees. I did see that they offered parking though-for i think $30 a day. I ride amtrak into union station and then we hoof it :cool1:

That's not a bad walk. Although last time I had to go there, they had some festival and it took us an hour to go a few blocks.

Hi:wave2: Yes we used the gymbucks. DD9 was so happy I ordered her outfit for her. I was also able to surprise her with a swim suit and a few hair accessories thanks to you!

What a great deal. You will have to post how the Hyatt was. The only reason I have to decide between the two hotels is that DH has enough Hyatt business travel points that we are going to use those. I have been leaning toward the Grand Hyatt since it looks like the metro goes right there.

Has anyone taken the metro in from the airport (DCA)? I didn't know how hard it would be with a suitcase. It looks like we would take the blue line right to the lobby???

I stayed at the Hyatt Regency Washington on Capitol Hill about 2 years ago for Spring Break and it was wonderful. In fact, I have just booked the same hotel for the end of August. It was way too cold when we when the last time!

There's a Holiday Inn right by the Air & Space Museum. They are the same subway stop if you decide to use the subway. My family and I stayed there years ago and it was wonderful-right in the middle of a lot.

We just stayed here in October. It's 1 block from the museum. Register for their priority club (free) and don't check out until 1 or 2. Car can stay in the garage until 5:00.

We loved it and can not wait until we can go back.

I think it depends on the time of day, mostly. At rush hour, you are going to have a hard time fitting a suitcase on the Metro.
