I hope to take a quick 3 night trip to Savannah, GA. Does anyone care to share info on a good hotel? I'd like something that's right in the middle of the action and walkable to restaurants and museums if that's even possible. I've never stayed in the area so I don't know which parts are good or bad. My budget is $600 max for 3 nights. A nice revamped older building would be great! This would be for anytime between the 12th and the 25th of June.

Also, for those who've been- any good gardens or historical sites that are a "must see"?

You can't go wrong with Hampton Inn hotels. We've stayed at the one in Savannah GA and loved it. They offer a free deluxe continental breakfast, and the beds are so comfortable. Prices hit just below $200 per night, so you should be good.

On their website they have a list of Savannah Attractions located close to the hotel. So you can see if this location would work for you. DH and I only stay at the hotel coming from/going to WDW, so we haven't seen Savannah. Only in the dark! :rotfl:

Thanks! I will look that one up. I figure its better to ask here about personal experiences with certain chains or hotels.

We really like the Hilton Savannah Desoto hotel. It within walking distance to the riverfront/parks/historic area.

There are 2 Hamptons in the historic district. Both are good. I would also recommend the new Bohemian or the Mansion on Forsyth as very good hotels. There are the usual Hilton, Marriott, and Hyatt, Courtyard, all in the historic district. The Bohemian is the newest hotel in the area. You would be able to walk to restaurants, River St., museums from these locations. I like the Olympia on River St. (Greek food) and Vinnie Van Go Go for pizza (they take cash only). The Firefly and Clary's are good for breakfast or lunch. This is a beautiful area! Have fun! :thumbsup2

I don't get to stay in Savannah because I live nearby but I do eat down there frequently and walk around the historic district.

We stayed here last year and it was wonderful, it's next to the pink house restaurant and in walking distance to the river front. It's on Reynolds Square. There is a complementary breakfast every morning. I am pretty sure rooms were under $200 a night

I hope you don't mind me hijacking your thread! We will be in Savannah for one weekend in July. We have tickets at the Savannah Theater, and would like to have dinner at Mellow Mushroom.

The thing is, our daughter just had major surgery and will be in a wheelchair. I'd like to find a hotel within easy walking/pushing distance of both the theater and MM.

Does anyone have any recommendations for me?

It's been years (more than I care to think about) since I've stayed there, but The East Bay Inn in Savannah is wonderful. It has some of the niceties of a B&B but it's got some of the conveniences of a hotel. It is also located a block from the river on East Bay Street, so it's very close to everything. It does have an elevator for those that need it.

I have stayed 3 times now at Marriott's-Courtyard. It was right across the street from the Welcome Center and all the Trolley Depot's.
Very easy to walk anywhere.
Wheel chair accessible.
Breakfast is $10 and is sort of blah-
This past March we paid $122 a nite plus tax.
You can park your vehicle one block down. There is a public parking garage. Otherwise you can pay $12 a day and valet will park your car under the building.

Across the street is a Brewery Resturant-very good.
We got in line and registered to eat at Paula Deen's-I wasn't impressed but my sisters were. I'd rather have eaten at Mrs. Wilks.

Hilton Garden Inn on Bay.....Fantastic and for a few bucks you can get a made to order hot breakfast.

Due yourself a favor and stay away from the pink lady....

A great lunch spot is Zunzis. It's the best....get the godfather.:thumbsup2

The Courtyard is nice but its a few blocks away....The Hampton and Hilton Garden is your best bet for the price.

We stayed at the Hampton Inn and we loved it. The staff was beyond nice (the breakfast host brought in a toy from home for my daughter on our 3rd morning), hotel was clean, breakfast was good, location was great.

The Hilton DeSoto is just a few doors down from Mellow Mushroom and The Savannah Theater is not the far away on Bull St. However, it is a little bit farther from River St than you may be comfortable pushing a wheel chair especially in the July heat.

The Desoto Hilton is beautifully elegant!! I love to see it all lit up and there is usually a limo there when I go by. LOL The Hyatt Regency is right on River Street and is a nice place. The Hilton Garden Inn is right in the middle of everything, including close to the Lady and Sons in case you can't resist.;) Enjoy your stay!!

I've been to savannah 5 times and have always stayed at the best western historic district.

best thing i've ever researched/done is a walking ghost tour...this one puts any other tour in savannah to shame..

We go to Savannah every two years or so, and always stay at the Eliza Thompson Inn. It's a B&B, so the delicious breakfast is always included (usually includes eggs, some sort of meat, pastries, cereal, etc., all homemade). It's only a block or so from Mrs. Wilkes, an equally delicious lunch buffet (similar to Paula Deen's, I hear). We like it because it's a bit off Riverside (I think that's the shopping district by the water?), so we get to walk through parts of Savannah to get to it, if that makes sense. See more of the town that way.

And I second blueorbtours. :) Enjoy!

The River Street Inn, it is so nice and right on the Savannah River. There are shops next to it and shops and restaurants below it, right on the river. It is a beautiful hotel in what use to be a cotton mill.

The AVIA Savannah is a very nice, more contemporary, boutiquie hotel right by Ellis Square (built within the last few years from the ground up). Easy walking distance to darn near everything. Planter's Inn is also a great location on Wright Square. We only used our car to drive at night or long distances (such as to Bonnaventure Cemetery).

Tripadvisor has tons of Savannah reviews, FYI.

I can't recommend The Olde Pinke House highly enough for nice meals, and they have a Tavern downstairs that is fantastic - get a burger and the Cheerwine BBQ Chicken Sliders (I would slap my grandma for some of those!). Goosefeathers is a nice cafe for lunch near Ellis Square. I'd also take Mrs. Wilke's over Paul Dean's any day of the week. If you want to drive about 20 minutes south of Savannah go to Wiley's Championship BBQ for some of the best beef brisket you'll ever find - melts in your mouth.

Very Cool! Thanks for all the recommendations. I'll have to look into the ghost tour. I did one in Alexandria Va(I think) and it was fun.
