My husband and I visited Disney for the 4th time (not as often as we would like but we live in the UK) just after Thanskgiving 2004 (previously we usually visted in January). We had a great time with all of the Xmas decorations etc and want to return at the same time in 2006. Whilst we enjoyed the parks in January we always seemed to hit the same week as the Cheerleader event so tried a different time and lo and behold we hit the Pop Warner event this meant that as we were staying at All Star Music the resort was pretty much overrun by these young folk meaning if we wanted to return during the day for a relaxing period by the pool this was pretty much impossible as even the smaller pool was very busy.

We are starting to consider where to stay next year and have to date narrowed it down to either the Carribean Beach, POR (we stayed there on our 1st 2 trips) or to try the Swan or Dolphin (walking distance to 2 parks and close to Boardwalk for evenings)

I would welcome any advice from anyone who has stayed at any of these resorts when the Pop Warner event is on as to how busy they are, addditonally if anyone has stayed at all of them and has a preference this may help us deceide - if not it might be sticking a pin in a brochure and trusting to luck !!! :earsboy:

Welcome to the DIS, jrpc!

If you are planning on going right after Thanksgiving, you could very well run into the same issue with the Pop Warner competitions. The CBR and POR will probably have cheerleaders and football players staying in them as they did at the All Star Music.

If you are going that week, you may want to try the Swan or the Dolphin. I stayed at the Swan in December, and enjoyed my stay. The rooms were a good size, and the beds were very comfortable. Being able to walk to Epcot, MGM, and the Boardwalk are definitely a big plus.

I was at the Dolphin when Spirit Cheer was going on in Mid March. There was also a big cheer event going on at Wide World of Sports. One thing about being at the Dolphin, is that it is large enough that the cheerleaders were not a bother at all, even though there was very much a presence of cheer people at the hotels for that particular event. There are enough pools at Swan/Dolphin to find a quiet spot. Also, the chaperones and parents of the girls were very attentive to them in the public areas and the groups were very well behaved. Our room was quiet and we never really noticed the girls were even there unless we were in public areas like the lobby or elevator. Again, they weren't intrusive, they were just there, taking pictures or waiting for their competition.

I don't know that you can pick a date and insure cheerleaders won't be around, but I know from being with them at the Dolphin, it was a very pleasant experience.

Thanks for the views expressed I must admit the thought of easy access to 2 parks was tempting ayway but perhaps we might give the Dolphin a try I realise that the Pop Warner is an annual event that I will encounter if I go at that time of year but it sounds like these sort of things can be encountered at anytime of year but nothing is going to get in the way of our 2 year rolling programme of visits! pirate:
