Can anyone help me with my mini DV?

I have a Panasonic PV-GS19. It did not come with any software (said it could be downloaded off of panasonic website but can't figure it out). I need to figure out how to get the still pictures I took with the camera into my computer. Also I know there is a way to put the video into the computer to burn onto a DVD and we can't figure that out either. Can anyway point a clueless person in the right direction?

Sometimes when you are running the program provided with the device, the program automaticaly starts when the device is connected and then turned on. So maybe you do not have the full program installed. I think my canon came with three different programs.

also you may need to finalise the dvd before windows will reckognize the file types.

Let me know if any of that works.

As for the pictures, did it record them to an SD card? If so, you should be able to put the SD card into any standard SD card reader and it should appear as a new drive on your computer.

As for the video, you've got to find a way to get the software from their website. You can try their tech support line. You might also try your local neighborhood geek.

Ok, I do a LOT of video editing from DV, and I'm going to recommend that you spend a little cash and get some commercial software instead of using the 'free' software. I'd personally recommend Ulead VideoStudio. It's only $69 and it's awesome in some of the things that it can do. http://www.ulead.com/vs/runme.htm You can even go to their website and get a trial download. Pinnacle also makes a good product, but I like ulead's better.

Anyway, with regards to the pictures - some cameras have two ways to record still images - On some type of memory card/stick that can come out or on the tape itself. By capturing the video with this second method you would have those 'pictures'. Remember, they are not going to be the same quality as stills from a reguar digital camera.

You should also be aware that video editing takes a LOT of space. It takes about 13 gigabytes to store just 1 hour of video.

Thanks for the links. I was looking for something like that. The DV has a memory card for pictures ( I will probaly just take it up to the drugstore and scan the ones I want on my computer). It is the first time I took pictures with it. So I am curious what they are goingto look like.

The only reason why I did both at the same time was because DH was at the Richard Petty Driving school in Michigan and I couldn't do both with 2 different cameras. The only thing our computer is used for is the interent basically. So I am not too wooried about space yet.
