I could really use any advice at all at this point. I've been engaged for about a year now, and I've been delaying getting married bc I'm clueless about weddings. Let me give you a little background info: I don't really like weddings too much, I want to get married but a ceremony isn't so important though I do not want to get married at city hall, if I do have a ceremony I would invite under 20 ppl ( I have a small family and FH has most of his family in Greece), I want to get married next year, I would love to have a Disney wedding but my mother isn't fit to travel and she is just about the only person that I need to have there with me ( beside FH of course :goodvibes ), I don't want to spend too much on the whole thing I would like to stay under 10,000... I don't even know if this is possible these days.

When I first got engaged I was so excited and I went out and bought a zillion wedding magazines, but nothing really appeals to me and in fact the whole process seems so intimidating. The one thing I do know is that my honeymoon will be at disney YAY! that is what i'm most excited for lol. I'm a nut, I'm willing to spend more on my honeymoon than on the actual wedding :rotfl: . Well, I'm sorry if I sound like a spazz, but lately I've been feeling really clueless and I really want to get married soon! Thanks for any suggestions in advance!!!!

First off, there are a lot of brides here to help you out. So don't feel so lost. :goodvibes

Secondly, sounds to me like maybe you should think about doing something different and maybe not so traditional. What is it you don't like about weddings? Lets figure that out first.

You're on LI? You have many many beautiful places right near you. Maybe a wedding on the beach. Or at a lighthouse. Or in a garden somewhere. Think out of the box.

My advice for what it's worth is to go with an intimate wedding, very small, and let your EM tend to all the details, there will be very little for you to plan compared to a custom wedding or a "traditional wedding" Let you relax and enjoy YOUR day and not turn it into eveyone else's day

I second DisneyBride2B, go with a Disney Intimate and let the EM do all the work. Just pick an outfit and show up.

Umm, yeah. She did, otherwise I would have said Intimate for sure. But she's going to WDW for her honeymoon, so thats wonderful! :goodvibes

Lola - I had a thought last night. What are you and your fiance interested in? Sometimes that really helps to give you ideas. For instance, do you guys like sailing, nature, classical music....you get the idea. Tell us a little about what you guys are into and we'll give you ideas.

After all, thats what we're here for! :goodvibes

My first suggestion was also an intimate at WDW...but after re-reading your post, I realize that you said that your mother can't travel...

I would still suggest something very intimate somewhere near your home. You don't have to have a big guest list...some friends of mine got married at their church, had a brief cake and punch reception in the church for everyone who attended and then took the immediate family to dinner at a local restaurant. They reserved a private room and had a mini-reception there...even did their first dance there!

DH and I ran off and got married in Florida. There was no one in attendance but us! It was perfect...others get married in places like Jamaica...Hawaii...or Mexico.

There are all sorts of things that you can do without having to have the big shin-dig. Please...tap into our brains! I'm sure that we can help you with whatever your plans need to be!

How about in someone's back yard? I thought about having a barbeque, or a luau...even though apparently I can't spell either of those words. :rotfl:

I love planning weddings but I just want a small one for myself.

The one idea I am considering is having a small ceremony with just family at home in a location that is really inexpensive (I am considering my house, my Future In-Laws or my parents house). Then instead of a reception I am going to chip in money and have our families join us in Disneyland for a weekend. That way those that can make it great, those who can't or don't want to do still get to be part of the ceremony. :earsgirl:

I don't know if this would be your cup of tea, but have you looked into any bed and breakfasts in your area? Some of them have packages where they will put together everything for you for less than $1000. Some of these places are really nice, and even modern if you're not into the antique feel some of them tend to have. Here's a website:

You spelled them both correctly!

Honeibee has some great ideas! I think she originally mentioned a wedding on the beach. That would be so nice and there are some beatiful, non-traditional, beachy dresses out there.

Are you close to any mountains? (I know NOTHING about New York) There is a camp in the Georgia Mountains that have a beautiful area in front of a waterfall where they have weddings. I don't know if you are close to anything like that.

:sunny: There is a beautiful hotel in Huntington, called Oheka Castle. I know it is a hotel and htey porbably have a restaurant. Maybe they have a small private room. Check it out, it is beautiful
