Can anyone confirm? The yeti is working again?

Not sure that information is pertinent enough to need to be accurate. What is the name then

No more pertinent than calling Figment a "she" I suppose. But it would be inaccurate nonetheless. ;)

The yeti does not have a name. Thus CMs felt the need to unofficially create one. Just as CMs gave the nickname "Harold" to the unnamed yeti inside Disneyland's Matterhorn. But in the case of DAK's yeti, the gender that they also unofficially assigned to it is not correct. :)

They need to get BoBo. He can get to the bottom of any problem 'Squatch or Yeti related.

He'll even look under the skirt and confirm whether this Yeti is a Betty or a Bruno.

Still seems a bit picky. There's no harm in them naming an unnamed yeti . It's not like they took figment and renamed him Pierre Von Winklesnap or something. Is an unnamed creature they named out of affection and sense of belonging to them.

Incidentally just happened to turn on destination America and low and behold its on EE and mr "in going to have ripped and sagging ear lobes"

And I'm all for a BOBO official gender determination

what's the difference? The ride is the coaster. Whether the Yeti is working or not has no direct impact on the operation of the ride. It is an "enhancement". I've rbeen on it when the Yeti was working correctly and the way it works now. Didn't change the ride for better or worse either way in my mind.

And this is probably the main reason why Disney won't close it down for major refurb. Why spend huge amounts of money and get people upset yhat it's closed when the basic ride is still OK. I'm sure Disney is as dissapointed as we are that it's not up to full potential. It's still one of most favorite rides and I did see it way way back when it was in full motion.

I'm sure someone already brought this up but apparently at D23 earlier this month Joe Rohde "promised" to fix the yeti and said he was working on it.

It's an unnamed figure who they completely ignored the backstory for and arbitrarily assigned the wrong gender to. It may be "picky" but I have respect for the Imagineers and the elaborate backstory they created for Expedition Everest and the yeti. And in that backstory, he is described as a dominant male.

Does calling him Betty affect guests' enjoyment of the ride? Perhaps not. But as I said before, people come to the DIS to get accurate information. Why have them believe a falsehood when it's a simple matter to give them the facts? :)

The Yeti is different than most animatronics because it's mechanisms for movement and such are housed behind her in her "back". Most animatronics the mechanisms are housed in their legs and under their feet. They couldn't do this with the Yeti because of the sheer weight of the whole thing. She woulda crushed her own machinery. (Hope that makes sense.)
It does. However it still seems shortsighted not to allow for some way to access that machinery. Mechanical things break as the yeti has so clearly illustrated.

Some have said that it's due to the base cracking because of the weight. Not allowing for that also seems shortsighted but of course mistakes happen to the best.

As for Betty or Fred or whatever the thing is called, that seems a bit petty. (Petty the Yeti? ;) ) It's just a machine and not even one that works.

IMO, the whole "have to take the mountain down to fix the Yeti" is far overstated,
and is just a misinterpretation based on sparse information.

Of course, they can access the "animatronic mechanical parts" as they sit now. Mechanisms with motors need lubrication and other maintenance on a regular basis.
They do replace those heavy propulsion motors on all of the ride mechanisms at WDW due to failure.
(I've been walked out of BTMRR due to a lift-hill complete motor failure (about half-way through, so it affected all ride vehicles.)
A few hours later, the ride was back up and running.)

Back to the Yeti... they could "undress" and disassemble the robot, piece-by-piece to remove it, if need be.
Then, they could do reinforcements and necessary modifications to the mounts and/or the yeti before reinstallation.

My contention is the true reason that they don't do such a major fix is due to the need to shut down the entire attraction for an extended period of time (as has been mentioned) to do this work, as the yeti is so close to the ride tracks.

I'm sure that Disney sees no real plus-side to doing that shut-down and lose the top "thrill attraction" at DAK for so long... when most guests don't miss the yeti to begin-with.

For MYSELF, I'd love to see the giant fuzzball put back in top shape.
Hoping that they do find a good time to do that refurb (as in, NOT while any of us DISer's are on WDW vacation!) ;)

I wonder if and when Avatarland comes inot play with some other thrill attraction, if then they will actually do the work that needs to be done on EE.

That makes a lot more sense than some of the comments I've seen over the years. I pictured some kind of hole where lube could be sprayed and nothing else after reading some of it.

I would like to see a fully operational yeti too. Maybe they will get it done once (or if) they open Avatarland.

Tell her to open her eyes next time. ;)

Well yes that may have been the problem too, but didnt pp me took about it not being lit up sometimes. I supposed it could have also been when it was tarped... I still have a hard time seeing disney just throwing a tarp on something and calling it a day. Although that statement will prob bring out the disney is going down hill people lol.

That's right, they wouldn't just throw a tarp over it, they'd put a planter in front of it! :)

Well if he has an elaborate backstory and specific gender that's different. Give him a. Oh name ;)

Or maybe they call it Betty out of respect for the the fact that the yeti just isn't who he was supposed to be. He isn't broken , Disco Betty is standing in til the dominant male can get his lean and swing back...

Maybe a scrim of a yeti?

Which apparently would work since so many either don't see her or think the little cartoon on the cave wall is an animatronic fully functioning.

Disney is going to read this and say see it never needs fixed!

1) Not working.
2) VERY doubtful for full-future-functioning.
3) There is a MAJOR structural design flaw!
4) MAJOR.
5) To operate the Yeti could cause a catastrophic disaster.
6) And, this is not an understatement.
7) To repair Yeti would require a major shutdown of the ride.

NOTE: The "mountain" is actually three separate structures build
in-and-around each other. In order to get to the Yeti superstructure,
portions of the ride & mountain must be dismantled. Not too much
hope in that. So, The Yeti functions only partially. They are trying to
make it work with other movements, but not the same ones as when
the ride opened.

This made me giggle because my 8 year old and I are currently watching the "Undiscovered Disney" shows on Netflix and when the imagineer was explaining how much work they put into making the Yeti look realistic she said to the tv "Oh yeah, really? You put all that work into it, and it doesn't even work?!"

What a shame. We had the good luck to ride it in January of 2008 when it was still working right and we almost peed ourselves it was SOOOO scary!!! The ride just isn't very good without it!:sad2:

I can certainly respect your opinion about how cool Betty (;)) was in her heyday, but to say the ride isn't very good now because she's immobile is a large stretch in my opinion. She appears for about two seconds either way, and that's generous.

They should remove the Yeti and put in a giant animatronic Joe Rhode
