If it were working, it would have been on multiple posts across this forum.

Too much to hope for, I'm afraid.

1) Not working.
2) VERY doubtful for full-future-functioning.
3) There is a MAJOR structural design flaw!
4) MAJOR.
5) To operate the Yeti could cause a catastrophic disaster.
6) And, this is not an understatement.
7) To repair Yeti would require a major shutdown of the ride.

NOTE: The "mountain" is actually three separate structures build
in-and-around each other. In order to get to the Yeti superstructure,
portions of the ride & mountain must be dismantled. Not too much
hope in that. So, The Yeti functions only partially. They are trying to
make it work with other movements, but not the same ones as when
the ride opened.

Thanks for the info! :thumbsup2 Are there any articles, or links, on the specifics of why it's malfunctioning. I'm a geek, and like to hear all the behind-the-scenes stuff.

Cracks in the foundation due to higher-than-expected stress from Betty's movements is the popular theory. You'll likely find nothing more specific than that.

She rode it 5 times today and swears it's working.. ??

Who is "she"? Does "she" know what it looks like when working? Or is "she" under the impression that a fan and some strobe lights are "working"? Or is "she" thinking the little Yeti ripping-up-the-tracks animation is Betty herself?

Saw Joe Rohde at D23 Expo and someone asked about it. He hates it isn't working and said they were thinking about how to fix it, but it won't happen anytime soon, if ever :(

I found the youtube of Joe Rohde on the History Channel, explaining the construction of EE, its 3 structures, and the yeti.

Note: This video is before the opening of EE.

If it is an issue with the yeti's foundation, as some have speculated, you can surmise that it isn't an easy fix. They would have to take down the mountain, disassemble the ride track, remove the yeti, then pour a new foundation for the yeti. And put it all back together.

I suspect if they ever fix Betty it will be after Avatarland is up and running. Ideally the new land will have some nice rides that take the heat off Everest, so they could in theory do a 2 year refurb without so much stress to the lines in AK. But under that theory they may be out of money since they would have just opened a whole new land :rotfl2:

Yes, but they could totally be done and have it open again for my next trip to the World in 2014. But they need to going! ;)

Had she ever ridden it before when it was actually working?

Exactly.. I was lucky enough to see her in her full glory. If you have see it, there is no mistaking the difference!!

I hear the Yeti gets angry when people call him a "her." ;)

I think that's the test. I've you've seen it, you KNOW you've seen it.

I've never seen it actually working but I've seen it on video enough to know what it looks like. So, if I ever say it's working, then it's working.

Exactly! :lmao:

If you Google for it, you can find some theories are on what needs to be fixed. Try using disco when looking some of the odder explanations. :)

Every time I see Joe Rhode on updated Disney shows on the Travel or History channels, his earlobe is hanging lower and lower. Freaks me out a little bit, all that bling he's got hanging from his left ear. :scared1:

Anyhow, like so many other Americans...the Yeti is not working.
