Can any one recomend a counter service place in MGM?

I've eaten burgers at Rosie's twice, and they were horrid!!! That is not a mistake that I would do again. :(

Thanks, EpcotGal8. I somehow skipped right over your previous post. I will make sure that is not on our list of possibilities.

I like the BAcklot Express -- it's a good spot to watch the parade from.

I am struggling too about where to eat at MGM. It's the only park where I don't have a favorite quick lunch spot. Isn't there a bakery there that serves pastries in the a.m. and then serves sandwiches in the p.m.? Usually bakeries have yummy sandwiches at lunch time, so now I'm wondering if there's one at MGM and if it serves sandwiches?? Anyone know? If not, the idea of boating to Beaches & Cream sounds doable....

I like Backlot express also, my entire family found the counter service there rather quick and decent portions.

If you are thinking of just a couple of APS at a sit down, I would suggest something a bit different-go to the 50's Prime Time Cafe, and you two can split an entree, to make it a light lunch. That way it isn't as costly as two seperate meals but you get the neat atmosphere.

My husband is a vegetarian and he had a Veggie Sandwich that according to him was the best counter service meal he had. He said it taste like pizza in a bun. The dessert that looks like a cookie is actually a peach cobbler. It was really good.

Because I enjoy eating light at WDW (I usually go in August and I can't stand to eat heavy) I usually eat snacks. This is what I must eat.......

Those pictures are making me hungry...and wishing I was there RIGHT NOW!!:earseek:

To echo others, ABC commisary is easily the only "bad" meal I ever had at WDW, save for that time when I was 10 years old and got a "burger" at Villiage Haus in MK - back when it was a "turkey" burger and I didn't know until I bit into it, hehe. I too had chalked it up to a bad day there (ABC), but I haven't met many people that have liked it. It's all the same fast food, really - you know the burger you eat there came from the same place every other fast-food burger in the parks come from - but it's just not cooked well here, and every "basket" I've seen had both the burgers and fries sort of smashed together (what few fries they put in).

I'll have to try Backlot next visit, but for the "light" meal you are looking for I'd try Starring Rolls, which is right next to Brown Derby. You can get an individual sized Cobb salad there (I believe they actually make them at the Derby next door), or other "lighter" fare. Or, I'd do as a few others suggested, and get a PS at Sci-Fi or 50's PTC and split a couple of appetizers or an entree. If you pick Sci-Fi, I can only really reccomend the burgers - but the portions are large enough that splitting one and getting shakes to drink would be practical.

Counter service at MGM is easily the least attractive in any of the parks - the only thing I buy from that mess of vendors across from the Fantasmic! theater is a bottle of water (it's nice there - usually so cold there is ice inside!). I usually do one sit-down and one counter service during each full park day, and at MGM I usually just settle for a nice sit-down at my favorite place on property (Brown Derby) sometime mid-afternoon and then get dinner somewhere else after the park closes.

As I've said again and again - MGM is counter-service-challenged! I'm hoping the Tag Fairy adds that to my signage!!!!

To echo others, Rosie's is particularly disgusting. DD and I had veggie burgers, and one bite was all it took!

One more quick bite spot is the turkey leg cart by Beauty and the Beast, but not for turkey legs (which I hate!), but for a decent hot dog that they sell there.

Another light lunch that we do a lot is a big soft pretzel (honkin' with mustard), it keeps you going until your dinner PS.

Have fun!

I think I need to try that veggie sandwich that tastes like "pizza in a bun" when I am there in January!

Thanks, djm99!!

I had a cuban sandwich at the ABC commisary and it was the best sandwich I had all week. I had avoided the commisary for years because of the reviews I had read on here but we were starving and there wasn't a line so we tried it.Kids didn't have a complaint about their burgers either.

Turkey legs are also a good bet but as others have mentioned seating is outside and sometimes hard to find a table.

You can eat at the bar area (Tune In Lounge) of 50's Prime Time. Its a great place to get a quick meal. We have had dessert, s'mores and milk, here.
