Can an older adult order a kid's meal at table service?

I'll be going with my 90 year old mother. She will not enjoy and probably won't eat a regular TS meal. She has Alzheimer's and gums her food. She eats mostly sandwiches or soups. Pizza is okay and mac and cheese are okay. She'll do a hot dog or hamburger. She'll eat french fries sometimes.

Anyway, putting fish, chicken, turkey or steak in front of my mom doesn't do anything for her. Even if I cut it up for her it won't be eaten. She probably won't eat the vegetable, either. She's okay with string beans, mash potatoes, rice, and yams.

We are doing the regular dining plan. I'm trying to do more buffets, but there are a few places where I know a child's meal would be better. I'm willing to bring a doctor's not if anyone thinks this will help at a restaurant.

So, has anyone ever done this as an adult?

I'm in my twenties and I have ordered of the kids menu, so they definitely do allow it.

I don't see why not. I'm there are a lot of seniors who order off the kids menu.

I hope you enjoy your trip and have many magical memories with your mother.

I've gone twice with my grandmother (in her early 80's) and the servers never batted an eyelash when she ordered off the kids menu.

We're going back at the end of October and the thing she is most excited about is the steak she had off the kid's menu at Citricos! :rotfl:

Sure. She should order whatever makes her the most comfortable. Hopefully, the servers will allow it. I know the dining plan does not let you upgrade from the kids menu to the adult menu (more expensive), but I do not see why they could not do it the other way around. If anything, maybe they can create adult like portions of the kids meals. For QS, there is no difference between the credits (unless it was very recently changed), so she can order a kids meal using an adult credit, no problem. Last trip, it deducted 3 credits total from our deluxe plan for me, DH and DS3(at that time). He always got kids meals, but his deduction looked the same as ours.

I ordered a kids meal for myself (37) at T-Rex a few weeks ago and the server was hesitant - you could almost see the nooooo forming - so I asked if my 1 year old son could have it, lol. She was very happy to do that. We still had fantastic service (which we reflected in the gratuity).

Counter service won't matter at all.

Enjoy and take lots and lots of pictures!

I can't understand why you're using the dining plan under these circumstances (unless it's free dining). Ordering kids meals with adult credits cuts back a lot on the value. Unless you are planning a lot of buffets, where everyone will pay the same thing.

A doctor's note will likely not be of assistance.

I'm one to over-prepare and make sure I am on the safe side. So I would take the note, but as others have mentioned, you most likely will not need it. The children's meal will be cheaper and therefore Disney will be better off financially if that is how she uses her dining plan credits. :thumbsup2

Have a magical vacation! :littleangel:

there will be quite a bit of buffets as I stated in my first post. If I do go with a kids meal I will probably do out of pocket and save credits and catch another meal with any saved credits. There are a few places where I feel you can always get in like Biergarten even without a reservation. Lunch is another good time to try a walk in. I even thought about making a breakfast reservation and cancelling it if we don't have any extra credits to use. To be honest I will more than make up for downgrading a meal myself if I use any DP credits for a kids meal. Sometimes you have to do what you have to do to get by. I'm on free dining; so, it's not quite as bad. I do appreciate your point, but I'm at the stage where it's better for my mom to eat and not stare at food she won't eat. Credits seem like they don't matter at this stage in life. If we don't get good value I won't sweat it, but I think we will do all right. I only have two TS places that can be a problem.

It sounds fine then. I really hopes she finds items she enjoys.

:)

I am in my latw twenties and ordered off the kids menu in Disney. Akerhus specifically. They just upped the portion size of my ravioli to make it more adult. But i dont see why you should have any problem getting your mom the food and portion sizes she wants!
