Can AKL compare to Poly?

We usually stay at the Polynesian during our stays. This year we decided to stay at AKL. Do the two resorts compare? Will I be disappointed? We just cannot justify the $400. price tag on Poly. Unless they offer a room only code during our stay, we AKL bound! My husband has me doubting my decision. He thinks we should just go ahead and stay at POP. (He doesn't think the moderates are worth the extra money) He said if we are going to have to take a bus everywhere we go, we should just stay at Pop and save our money. Any opinions? My kids will probably be happy anywhere as long as there at Disney.

I have stayed at both. AKL is awesome. There is nothing else like it with the animals. However, if I had my choice, I would choose Poly. I did notice the size difference in the rooms. Much roomier at the Poly. Bus is the only mode of transportation at AKL. I didn't think it would bother me but it did. I liked the food options better at Poly, but that's just me. I missed the monorail. I liked having CR and WL close by for food options. The Poly is very bright and cheery. AKL is very dark but comfortable. Both places are great. I would definitely pick AKL over Pop. And I would definitely stay at AKL again. It is a beautiful and amazing resort. I just prefer the Poly.

I've stayed at the AKL and the Poly and frankly neither one can compare to the other because the both of them have their charm. I will say what does set them apart is the monorail. Except for the AK, the AKL is the farthest away from the other theme parks and you will be on the buses a LOT.

While I agree with your husband with respect to the moderates, I will say that the buses for Pop are considerably more crowded than that for AKL and the food court is extremely busy. But POP also has more than 2x the amount of rooms than AKL.

Poly - Monorail, boat & Bus service to parks.
AKL - Dedicated bus service to parks (typically faster than any of the above, but you don't have the diversity)

Poly - Possible view of MK & nightly fireworks, View if you walk around.
AKL - Possible view of Giraffes and other animals walking/eating/sleeping outside your room. View of animals if you walk around.

Poly - No room is connected to lobby building. If it rains, you could get wet.
AKL - All enclosed corridors, you could get wet going to/from the snack bar as it's exterior entrance only. Other resteraunts are off of the lobby.

Poly - Larger rooms (not sure how much larger), recently renovated(?)
AKL - newer rooms.

BOTH have beautiful lobbies, friendly service and are unbeatable places to stay, but they are also very different from each other. Apples to Oranges in my opinion - both are great but very different.
