Can a whole thread get deleted?

Just wondering? I started a thread about obnoxious shirts and it is now gone. Seriously, I posted to it not 10 minutes ago and when I tried to reply to another poster, it gave me an invalid thread page. It is not in my control panel and not showing up when I search. My posts from that thread are not even showing up under my CP when you click on "show other posts". As far as I saw, noone was directly insulting anyone else. I have never seen this happen--thread gets closed, but do they get completely deleted?

Someone posted a link directly to their own site that was selling shirts. I don't think that is allowed. The DIS doesn't like to give out free advertising.

Yes whole threads can get deleted.

Oh, okay. Why didn't they just delete that post? :confused3

:confused3 so very bizarre. you'd think if it was a link issue, then just that post would be removed.

there have been issues with the boards the past few days according to the dis page on fb. not sure if it would be that or not.

also i could be wrong, but i believe there was one a few months back about rude and inappt. tshirts at the world. one of the mods might have shut it for that reason?

I also think the thread would have needed some major cleaning up, as well. A lot of the shirts people were "reprinting" were a little risque by DIS standards, even in their edited state.

I don't agree that the shirts were out of line, but the DIS is not my site, and we have to abide by their rules.

I didn't see that one, I guess. I do agree some of the ones posted on my thread were inappropriate in a different way than I was talking about in my OP. Oh well, one last thread for me to have to keep up with.

Thanks, I suppose a mod should close this one in case the discussion starts back up here.

I was wondering what happened also. I went to check the thread through an e-mail post & it said it was "invalid". I wish when they did that they would at least put an explanation as to why the thread was completely deleted.

I didn't find anything wrong with it. If it was the link to the t-shirt selling site, couldn't they just have deleted that post like someone else mentioned?

I think that this is probably the reason. There was a photo of one on there towards the end of the thread that I thought would have been deleted. It was probably easier to delete the whole thread than to weed out the non family friendly posts.

I think it depends on the Mod or WM and how much work would need to be done for pruning and whether the topic would still veer off in a direction they don't want people to go in.

Is there another controversial thread the Mods are having to babysit right now? :hyper: :surfweb: They might not have the energy to babysit two threads. You know they often have to babysit a thread 10 pages long

, waiting for someone to run it into a ditch

, so they can finally put on the lock. :headache:

There is also more or less people on line during holidays. Plus, we get in different people who don't visit a lot, or aren't used to how this place works. I would think all those could affect how they decide to moderate and whether they lock or delete a thread completely.

It definately went poof because I hit 2,000 posts today and should have about 2,008 now but it's lower because the thread was deleted.

Hey Imzadi! You like my signature?? ;)

I hope it wasn't my post that got the thread deleted. I posted a link to a shirt too upsetting to believe, but I certainly wasn't trying to sell or promote it! I just figured nobody would believe it actually existed without proof. It was pretty early in the thread, though, so hopefully not.

If it was, I sincerely apologize!

Yes, we can delete entire threads when needed.

In the case of that particular thread, there were a lot of posts scattered throughout that described shirts with language that's not appropriate here, and lots of posts that quoted those posts... pruning would have been difficult. And, inevitably, more inappropriate sayings would have been posted.

Some threads are just not worth saving.

You are my hero! Too bad we aren't neighbors and we could have a Criminal Minds premiere party!!party:

Now that would be fun! :dance3: :happytv: popcorn::  :scared1:

Except we'd never get a chance to talk during the show. :hyper2: I'd be oogling over all the Hotch scenes, while you are watching the Reid scenes. :lmao:
