I am seeming to be pretty invisible around here lately. I posted a question over on the transportation board and got 6 reads, with 0 replies so if you don't mind, I would like to ask you all here for your opinions.

I am obsessing over this and am stuck... I am arriving at WDW on July 3rd (Don't want to fly on the 4th) and heading to the Poly Con for 3 nights then to POR for 6 nights. I would like to have some bottled water, juice, bagels and pb&j in my room (not only to save some money but to limit the chicken tenders :( my kids eat). Here is my question... HOW can I get to a grocery store on the 6th? I know I could stop on the way to the POLY, but I don't want to lug all the stuff up there, then have Disney move it to POR   .

Anybody have any ideas? I checked out Netgrocer and their shipping rate is fine, but their water selection isn't. Any other .coms that do that?

Thanks a million if you respond...

Hoping not to be a pest,
Karen

Please don't feel invisible. Sometimes it takes awhile for questions to be answered. Especially on boards that are not frequented as much as others....

As to your question I don't know of any other grocer.coms but I would suggest picking up on the way there. It doesn't sound like you need a lot and should be easy to move. Perhaps you could bring a collapsable bag to store/transfer these items?

Maybe someone else has a better solution.

Your all set for the Poly con but POR. Are you renting a car? I usually just go to Goodings and get what I need. I am not sure if this helps you but I don't want you to feel your invisible, we are all on the Dis boards to help each other:)

Sorry you didn't get any replies to your request. Sometimes happens to all of us.

My suggestion would be when you arrive at the Poly just buy what you would need for that stay. There is a self-serve area on the ground level in the back of the lobby (around the corner by the stairs and along a short walkway). They have your water, juice, bagels, muffins, etc.

Do the same when you arrive at the POR.

Have a wonderful trip.

Hi Karen. Don't have any suggestions, but some of the boards do move pretty slowly at times. And sometimes, a person will look at a post and if they have nothing to offer (answer, help or comment), they just go on. Always feel free to post anything you want here on the CB, within guidelines (except celebrations, those will usually get moved) as all topics are welcomed here, no topic guidelines.

Have a great day and enjoy your planning, ounds like a nice trip coming up. :sunny:

Will you have a car? If not, how are 'you' getting from the Poly to POR? You say that Disney is moving your stuff from the Poly to POR, right?

If you won't have a car - there's always the option of getting a taxi to pick you up at the Poly - taking you to a grocery store - and then dropping you off at POR, but this seems like a lot of steps.

I really don't think that Disney would mind moving your food with your luggage, as long as it's packed up and labeled with your information. Could you bring along a collapsible suitcase in your luggage to stick the groceries in for the move?

Sorry you've felt invisible...:(

This is what I do when I go to Fort Wilderness for a vacation so I suppose it would work the same with the other resorts as well. For your 1st leg, make up a box with the stuff you desire, at home and send it via FedEx to the resort main desk. Make sure you put your hotel ressie number on the box and the day you are checking in. They will hold it there for you.

For the 2nd leg, have a friend pack the box for you and ship it to POR via FedEx in the same manner. I did this with most of my groceries including frozen stuff (they have freezers in the FW cabins) because I have access to dry ice. You can also check the prices of other carriers and maybe ship the 1st box out FedEx and the 2nd box UPS ground (takes about 2 or 3 days to arrive) if you do not have a contact at home to help you.

Hope this helps and have a wonderful trip.

Karen - don't feel bad about having Disney move it for you. They will do it without hesitation and be happy to help you with it. So go ahead and get what you need when you make your first grocery stop. Just plan a bit of a tip on both ends, which will still be cheaper than sending a box via Fed Ex or mail or getting a cab and making a second grocery run.

I had "groceries", mainly water and soda, that needed to be moved with my luggage when I changed from the Swan to OKW and they did without any hesitation and with a smile. And even when they delivered my stuff to my room after I arrived there later that night, they were still doing it with a smile. They got a very nice tip from me mind you but they do it as part of their job. It just makes things much easier for you!!!

I don't have anything to add about your question, but just wanted to say hi and welcome! Your trip sounds wonderful! I love both the resorts you're staying at! Hope its truly magical!

BTW I vote for letting Disney move it too! They won't mind!

Or another option would be to use Britta filters instead of buying water. We took a couple with us last time & even DS (who is very picky about his water) was happy. I was extremely surprised at how well they worked.

Deb

PS I really like your tag! DH thinks Boma is the best restaurant he's even eaten at - anywhere, anytime! ;) We use a bunch of their recipes every month. Mmmm

We were at VWL and then moved to OKW for the last part of our December trip. We did a large grocery stop on the way from the airport and saved our grocery bags. When we moved to OKW, we packed up the backs again, and they moved them for us to the new resort.

They even kept the fridge stuff cold. I would do this over sending boxes/etc, the extra tip was minimal compared to shipping charges, IMHO.

Karen, just go up to Poly concierge and take all the water bottles and bagels you want and they even have some crustless pb&j sandwiches you could swipe in the evening... pack it in your bags and have Disney move it for you :teeth: Oh and don't forget the cookies... they are wonderful!

Not much help am I? Sorry you are feeling invisible there though... I know that feeling quite well.

How much does it cost to get a taxi?

I know you can rent bicycles at the Boardwalk. How far of a trek to the grocery store is it from the Boardwalk? I believe they have big baskets, too.

Thanks everyone... those are great ideas... I may pack a medium box with 24 bottles of water and some juice and bring it down on the air-o-plane! We will only have two suitcases and an umbrella stroller so it wouldn't add much... Very easy to switch hotels with too, as they won't see what is in it, nor will it spill everywhere.

I might make the grocery stop for the pb&J, bread and bagels... however, I wonder the odds of the bread actually making it to POR without being squished!

Helenabear (Elaine)! I was going to post on the debate board whether storing up all the juice and water from concierge to bring over to POR was wrong???? ;)

Thanks again! I think I am set (for today)! lol

Karen

Just want to reiterate that I have never seen a Disney bell person be mad for having to move foodstuffs. I'd bring a collapsible cooler(or buy one of those styrofoam ones at the store during your grocery stop) and when you are moving, pack the food in it and send it over withyour luggage. My only other thought is take a taxi to the grocery store once you get to POR. That's kind of a pain though.

I think the Boardwalk area has a little grocery store and I think Ft. Wilderness has one too. I would buy up a big bag full and just use onsite transportation to get it back to POR.

Hi. Just my two cents......if you want to investigate an online grocer other than Netgrocer, check out Publix. They have a site for ordering online. I don't know the details for delivery to Disney, but they ship all over Florida. Enjoy your trip!!:D
