Can a TIW card be transferred between spouses?

We purchased the TIW card in Dec 2017. At the time, I had to run off to do something so my husband purchased it in his name.

I am in the parks more often alone than he is. Can I get the card put in my name at this point? I am going to WDW with my daughter in a few weeks and my husband has to work. I know there is a $50 fee for a second card but with less than 6 mos left on the card I was wondering if Disney can just make me the primary person? My husband NEVER goes alone to WDW but I have no problem doing WDW by myself. I searched online for this answer but couldn't find anything.
thanks!

I have never seen anyone report that they were able to do this, but I would absolutely call the direct TIW line and ask if it is an option. I didn't notice it at the time, but when they issued my card in January they put it with my first name but my husband's last name. It was never an issue at any restaurants we went to, but I was calling to get a plastic card to replace the tyvek one that stopped scanning and asked about putting it in my real name and they had no issue making that change for me.

Won't say it won't happen
but it was more likely to happen if you did it right away
and not 6+ months later. At that point it would have looked like a mistake.

From the TiW website page:

  • Tables in Wonderland memberships are non-transferrable. The Tables in Wonderland member must be in attendance at the meal, present the Tables in Wonderland card, a driver’s license or state ID, and pay for the meal, in order to apply the discount.

Our card had DH's first Initial and our last name, which he requested when we got the card and DH and I share the same first initial.. so I was able to use the card without him. I have another friend who used her husband card, last name the same the server, looked and said with a wink I think that you might have told a story on how tall you are... but she still let her use it.

Well the situation was.....my husband paid for our card with his credit card so the cast member put his name on it. It was never spelled out to us that he had to be present. We figured we are married....have same address? But in hindsight, I wish I had paid for it with my card so my name was on it. Wish the Cast Member had said something. They have been closed all weekend and I work Monday 7a to 7:30 pm so I will have to call on Tues. Paying the $50 spouse card doesn't make financial sense as I will not recoup the money spent on the card in discounted meals at this point.

Since they have a special spouse card add-on that’s not full price, I’m going to say that no, it shouldn’t happen.
well....my husband is willing to give up any priority use to this card. What is it to Disney at this point to change a name? There will still only be ONE card that the "named" spouse on the card must be present for? I'm sure they could take our present card and destroy it? It's not like I'm trying to double-dip--- where he has his card and I get my own if that makes sense? But, knowing Disney....I'm sure I won't be able to. So I just won't get any dining discounts this trip. Lesson learned. Never trust that any cast member will explain all the fine print to you. We never thought it would be an issue. A spouse card was never mentioned at time of purchase----I wish it was---because that would have alerted me to the fact that my name should have been on it and not his. We were not given a choice. My husband had used his credit card so the CM put his name on it, never explaining the rules of that.

Please come back and tell us how it goes. I would think it would be easy to invalidate the old card and issue you a replacement card.

I am sorry that a mistake was made. It should have been explained to you that the TiW was only for the person named (like an Annual Pass). You also should have gotten a pamphlet with the small print at the time of purchase so the mistake could have been corrected earlier.

Just trying to play devil's advocate. If transferring was allowed as a general rule, people could TiW "share." It would be like sharing an Annual Pass. If transferable, people could be selling them on craigslist and undercutting Disney. At least with TiW, there is the spouse option.

There is a replacement fee for lost or stolen cards as well $50 (and spouse membership is $50).
But I will wish the OP luck since she didn't understand the terms.

We were not given the pamphlet in January when we purchased ours. We got it at the International Gateway and we specifically asked for it, but they told us that with all of the new restaurants coming on-line in DS that the printed materials couldn't keep up. Not sure if it was just this CM who didn't want to give it out or if this is the new practice. When I got my plastic card to replace the tyvek one it did come with a list of restaurants and a letter saying that the old card was invalid, the numbers on the cards are also completely different.

Yes....I respectfully get the selling/transferring on eBay debate. But we live together....have same address......own DVC together... etc. We're not cousins or friends or neighbors.....we are married & reside in the same household. Disney knows this. They know everything! LOL

I just want to have my name on it vs his? The $50 spouse card (again...never explained to us) is not financially sound at 6 months in to the membership? I would never recoup the cost of the spouse card in dining discounts in less than 6 months at this point.

We DEFINTELY would have had my name on the card had we known this was going to be such an issue (wish the CM had told us!). Even my husband says this. He says you go to WDW way more than I do. They can take the original card and shred it so there is no selling on eBay etc. I am not trying to do anything sneaky. I haven't called yet....plan to tomorrow. Had a few things going on the past 2 days. I appreciate all the feedback.

No, you shouldn't. And it should not be up to the CM to explain it to you. There is no way the CM can explain the entire fine print to everyone. In this case alone, how on earth would the CM even know to explain the Spouse card? Out of all the rules, why would they know to explain that one to you? How would they know you don't always travel with your husband. They wouldn't. That's why it's up to you to accept responsibility to learn the rules for yourself. I do get it, really I do. It's hard to learn everything but they do explain it throughly on the TIW website. Right off the bat it's obvious, I mean, why else would they sell a Spouse Card? If they wanted spouses to share the card they wouldn't sell a spouse card. I know, spouse share addresses, accounts, everything. That doesn't matter. If it did, they wouldn't sell Spouse cards. Right? My husband and I can't share our card, not without buying a secondary card. That's how the program works. As much as that isn't the answer you want to hear. But, I would still go to Disney and explain it to them and ask. Worse they can do is say no, it's always possible they will say yes. Exceptions are made all the time.

Are you sure you wouldn't recoup $50 in discounts in 6 months? We get that back in 6 meals.

To reply to this AngiTN.....I never knew there even was a spouse card?? Never knew it existed? We had been having dinner last Dec in the park....the server asked us if we had any dining discounts and mentioned the Dining Plan and the TIW. We did not have either at that time. We asked about TIW, the CM at restaurant pointed out where to go to get one and we purchased it within an hour after our meal. Never any mention of a spouse card. We even asked for a booklet/pamphlet that would tell us which restaurants participated and they had nothing to give us. Husband gave his credit card and his name was automatically put on card. The spouse card, now that I am learning, works great if both spouses go several times to WDW alone. I do go without my husband, but he would never go without me. So just no point to have a spouse card for us. That's about the best I can explain it AngiTN.

UPDATE AUG 9th: THEY DID IT!!! TIW is changing the name!!!
I will send back the orig card and they will issue a new one with my name on it! She apologized the CM did not mention this! WOOOT! They are sending it priority mail. I cannot express how awesome this is. They were super nice and apologetic. From this point on....the card will always be in my name (my hubby agrees!). :stitch::simba::tigger::sulley::mickeyjum:goofy::dumbo::donald: THANK YOU DISNEY (TIW)!!!! Got some :tinker:pixiedust: today!

I'm glad you had a good outcome. I do agree that the original CM should have at least said that the card is only good if the person named on the card is present and paying for the meal. I mean that isn't fine print, that is a basic definition of it.
