My 15-year-old daughter is going to Disneyland soon with her friend's family. I purchased a 3-day hopper for her, but it now looks like our family will also be taking a couple of trips later this year. Can she upgrade her hopper to an annual pass if I'm not with her? I would give her the money-- not looking to use the payment plan.

I don't know for sure but I wouldn't count on it. We were exchanging vouchers, not upgrading tickets, but money was still involved because we added Max Pass. I recall needing to show ID and sign an agreement of some kind. Often when contracts are involved a parent needs to sign, and since they look at ID they would know she's underage. I don't know if we had to sign an agreement because of the payment or just because we were setting up an AP. If it turns out there's a problem with her paying without a parent (but not with her collecting the AP), then assuming the ticket doesn't expire any time soon you could buy her an AP voucher and use the ticket for someone else to upgrade on your next trip.

I think you should call and ask. Maybe there's some way for you to sign the necessary documents ahead of time or authorize her friend's parents to sign for her.

Ah! I hadn't thought of that! That's a great idea. I did buy the hopper through LMT, though, which asked for specific travel dates and my daughter's name. The ticket itself has no name on it and doesn't expire until the end of the year, so I assume it would be ok to use it for another family member?

I think it would be fine. just have them say she is their parent. They can't rely on the ID matching names. When my parents divorced years and years ago, and then remarried her name changed to be different from mine. So they can't say oh, because you don't have the same last name you can't be her parents.

I don’t remember signing any sort of contract to buy or upgrade to APs. We’re out of state so can’t do a oayment plan, and the plan is why a person would have to sign a legal contract.

I'm also from out of state and didn't use a payment plan, and I definitely signed something. I read it and it was reasonable and not something that I felt the need to keep a copy of, so I'm guessing it was along the lines of a "don't break the rules" agreement, but honestly I don't remember for sure what it was. I also added MaxPass so it could have been related to that, but I can't imagine MaxPass has a contract and the AP doesn't.

On our last trip in July, I took a friend on my son's to the ticket booth and had her 5 day hopper converted to a deluxe AP. The CM knew I was not her parent or guardian and she didn't ask me for any additional information. She did ask for her ID, so if your daughter doesn't have a permit, I would see about getting her a state ID card. Again, this is for a non-payment plan AP.

Disney accepts school IDs regularly for minors using their AP discounts, so I would think that might be acceptable also as a form of ID when getting the AP.
