Can a purchased magicband be swapped between people?

What I mean is, if my son’s uncle purchased a special character magicband on his trip last year, and he wants to give it to my son to use on our upcoming trip, can it be deactivated from his account and then reactivated on my son’s?

No. You can always call IT and ask but they probably won’t move it.

While the pucks are typically locked to a given account, they CAN swap the puck out of the band. So if your son gets a new band as part of a on-property resort stay (or even just buys one) you can swap the puck. So Uncles puck goes in a dresser drawer, and Son's puck goes into Uncle's band. This lets people use bands even if the battery in the puck dies. The puck is the part that matters, the band just helps keep you from losing it.

Our trip the other week, I took a red band, and put a green puck in so I had holiday colors.

You CAN use any bands that are on your own MDE, as in we have several from past trips, so if the kids want to wear one color one day and another color a different day, they can do that, as long as they are already linked to them from previous trips and show active in the MDE?

Yes, that’s correct.

Please remember, the batteries dont last that long, i learned the hard way none of our ride videos/pics turned out. I thought it was all good cause it worked for the fast pass and the tickets. ( they are right next to readers)
Sometimes it worth the money to just be sure. Our old bands were a year old.

That's too bad. Usually the batteries will last at least 2 years for the RFID. For FP and tickets they don't need a battery, so that parts always works.

I guess you dont know how ling they were in the store.... you just pay way to much to get in to mess up your pics over 15-30 bucks

Some rides (7DMT and Frozen to name a few) don’t have touch points at the end for photos. On ToT you only get the video if your RFID is working. Tapping only gets you the picture.

I would like to mention that MDE sent me an email from myself and asked me if I wanted to accept - I did and it linked ALL of my husbands MBs in my name so even tho they are designated with his names they scan as mine. Now only the last 3 are actually linked to him and it can be seen in MDE. MOST ANNOYING.

Any PUCK or Card (Or MB V 1) that shows up in your account and is marked as active can be used by the account holder interchangeably. So if you have a split stay, both bands will work for the duration of your trip. If you have old bands from previous trips, they will work, but as several PPs have pointed out, if the internal long range battery has died (expected to have a lifespan of 2+ years) then some of the on ride photos won't work, nor will some of the "interactive" ride features (IE IASW saying your name on the TV screens at the end).

And you can swap out the active PUCKS in any band you have, or the Magic Band holders they sell, or any other way you wish to carry the puck. So if another family member or friend has a band that you wish to use, you can put your puck in that band, and use it.

So, to confirm for OP, the uncle's special character band can be used with the son's puck. That way the son has a cool character band but with his own puck inside it that verifies it is him.

The idea of switching the pucks and bands to mix and match will give us an added little bit of magic on our upcoming trip since I have about three magic bands associated with me.

yes that is correct! The“brain” or key to his account is in the puck. So his puck in any band will work
