Can a minor check in earlier than the adult in the stateroom?

Cruising with extended family- my 14 year old niece is in my stateroom. She and her parents are driving from WDW to ship early, w/ early debarkation time. I also have early debarkation time, but I may end up needing to take the WDW ground transfer to ship- which I know will have me arriving later. Can my niece check in without me if I can't get there until later, or do we need to check in together? Thanks!

Embarkation is getting on the ship and Debarkation is when the cruise is over and your are leaving. I believe you must check in everyone in a stateroom together and they take your photo at that time for your Room/ charging key. Have a GREAT cruise.

Oh I mixed up my embark/debark! Thanks for the reminder...

Everyone in the stateroom does not have to check in together however I'm not sure they would allow a minor to check in if the adult has not checked in first. Often one adult will check in and get their boarding number and the other adult will return the rental car and meet up later.
I'm sure someone will pop in with the answer.

On our 12/31/15 cruise, I had the same concern. DD was in DB, DSIL, DN's room and the rest of us were in another cabin. I was worried she and I would have to sit in the terminal and wait for the transportation from WDW to arrive. Happily, they allowed her to board with us. Not sure if that was due to the fact that she was my DD (ie, direct family) or not. Sounds like y'all have a very similar situation so as of 5 months ago it wasn't a problem. Hope this helps!

There was another similar thread about this the other day. This has changed (they advised me it was May 2015) and everyone in the cabin must be present to check in. In 12/2015, at Port Canaveral, my DH was doing just as you mentioned and was dropping off the car rental and I went to check us in. I was not able to check him in, even though I had his passport. The CM stated it was due to the heightened customs and everyone must be present to check in. I checked myself and DS in and then when he arrived, he checked in and we boarded since I'm Platinum and they were already boarding by the time he got there. Luckily the Platinum line wasn't long to check him in but the other lines were pretty long by then.

If others lately have been allowed to do it, I don't think it's the norm, but of course I'm sure it could happen :)

Sorry Heather, I should have explained better. I'm aware of this. What I meant was I could check in without my DH being there and he could check in later, not that I could check us both in. Both parties do not need to be there for one to check in.
Again, sorry, I guess I should have spelled it out better. And I could be wrong, has happened before. lol.

No worries!! :) Yep, we are saying the same thing then! We are almost always together and usually early but we had hit traffic heading to the port in the rental car and I didn't know their policy had changed so now I know too. It still saved time to check myself and DS in, however luckily the Platinum line was non-existent.

I can understand why a passenger must be physically present to check in and present their own identification. However, as recently as Jan 17, 2016 I have split a cabin with a friend and we checked in separately because we arrived separately. No minors in the travel party, though.

Right - I think we are saying the same thing :) You couldn't check your friend in (you weren't trying to either based on your post). Before, you could check in other people not present as long as you had their identification with you. That part is the part that changed. I also agree, I can see why it changed and if I didn't post it in this thread, the CM stated it was due to the increased customs/immigrations/port security and I immediately thought - yep makes perfect sense. ;)

Ps. So to add/clarify - as I mentioned before as I don't want to derail the OP's question - not sure how it would impact being able to move on to the Supervisors Desk if not everyone has checked themselves in or arrived yet, or if it's a minor doing the first check in. I think the minor part would be the issue, but I have not experienced this.
