My DS10 will be experiencing the adult DD for the first time. I've looked at most menus and I'm thinking that its a lot of rich food for two weeks for a small boy, as we will be having TS meals most nights. I've read that he wont be allowed to order off the kids menu. Any experiences or advice would be welcome. Worried I'm going to have a 10 yr old with gout:guilty:

He most definitely will be able to order off the kids menu!!!! Dont worry! My son did that for a couple of meals. Although not many, cause he's pretty adventurous and a big eater! Heck, if i wanted something off the kids menu they will give it to me too! Dunno who gave you that info, but thats false. Many ppl have the same problem with their 10 yr olds. Disney is extremely accommodating for picky eaters. Your son will be just fine! :)

He can order off the kids menu...he may or may not be able to order off the kids menu and pay kid prices, but he can order off the kids menu. At some places, they may give him the exact kids meal and charge you a kid price and you can pay OOP and save his adult credit for you to use later. At other places, they may bring him a larger serving of the kids meal and maybe an adult dessert and charge you 1 adult credit.

(At fixed price meals, dinner shows, buffets, Ohana, CRT, etc. he can eat kid choices, but he will be charged as an adult)

In Sept. 2009 my DD11 turned 10 during our trip. I could have had her still as a kid but I decided to upgrade her to an adult so she could pick whatever she wanted. (since DDP was free only cost me the difference between a kid's one day base ticket and an adults-now it would be a 2 day difference.) You can definitely order him a kid's meal especially since you are actually saving Disney money.:goodvibes

My DD had the best time. She could get whatever she wanted. Sometimes she wanted a kid's meal (and sometimes I would pay OOP for it and save the adult credit for another restaurant). Some TS locations offer what they call Junior Sized Meals for older kids. Basically it's a larger serving of kid's meals.

Your son should find plenty to eat since he can basically have whatever he wants. And don't forget that many chefs will make adjustments to meals if there's something in it that your DS10 won't like.

Here's a few of the meals DD got that trip that she bridged over to adult.

Kona-Kid's sized ravioli-this was before I knew about Junior meals. I paid OOP for this meal-first one of our trip.

Kona-Junior Meal Mickey Ravioli

Raglan Road-Shrimp and Chips. I believe this is an adult serving.

Adult sized Ravioli with meatballs at Wolfgang Puck Cafe.

Pasta with cheese sauce at WP Express-CS

50's PTC-Junior version of Kid's Chicken Nuggets. However, this was the worst meal she had the entire trip. Those nuggets were awful! I think they were stepped on by elephants!;)

My DD11 loves ravioli! ;)

We go to Disney every year and have never had a problem ordering kids meals for my 6' 14 year old DS. In fact, I usually ask for an "adult size version" of the kid's meal (which is usually chicken tenders). Or I just pay for his meal OOP and save the TS credit for another meal.

My 11 year old was also allowed to order kids meals at TS!

We didn't even have a chance to ask our server at Garden Grill. As soon as he realized the kids were unhappy with the food (though we loved it), he came back with kids food for both of them. :thumbsup2

Wish I had thought to ask at Ohana's however.

No problem! My daughter who had just turned 4 last year before our trip has Down Syndrome and is super picky - both in taste and texture. We were able to find things at every TS restaurant, we were also on the DDP. Dinner at Ohana was a little tricky, and our daughter was crazy picky that night, after all attempts failed our waiter even brought a bowl of her favorite cereal. One other night at Whispering Canyon Cafe was more difficult as the kids menu didn't have her favorites, the waiter that night got her an Uncrustable - and I'm pretty sure he had to go over to Roaring Forks to get it. They will accomodate!! :goodvibes

My son was 10 when we went last summer during free dining, and he definitely prefers the choices on the kids' menu. We did several buffets just to make it easier, but we also did a few order-from-the-menu locations and there was no problem getting a larger size version of a kids meal. The only place where he had an issue was Ohana. They didn't really have anything he liked. To top it off we were soaked from the rain and the air conditioning was turned up so high that we were freezing! So Ohana was a bit of a bust for us.

This year we had our second trip as "disney adults" for my 2 sons. They loved being able to order from either menu. Most places asked if they wanted to have both menus....others you can simply ask and they're happy to bring a kids menu also. Several places we were able to even mix the menus, for example at Sci-Fi my son preferred a hot dog to a cheeseburger, but was given the adult side of fries and adult dessert choice. They will also make anything plain without fancy sauces or heavy seasoning and substitute fries or plain mashed potatoes (if available) rather than what comes on the menu. My kids had plain grilled steak and/or pork chops at Mama Melrose, Brown Derby, Le Cellier and a few other places. Even at Teppan Edo the chef offered plain noodles since my son didn't like the veggies mixed in. I haven't yet had a problem ordering anything "kid friendly" off the adult menus. I've even overheard adults ordering the way my kids do.....and nobody was ever denied.

regards

Thanks for the information! Good to know that Disney can be very accommodating.

ANYONE can oreder from the kid's menu.
. . . if paying DDP, an adult will be charged an adult coupon
. . . if paying OOP, anyone would be charged kid's prices

Thank you all so much. Real glad i asked the question now, looks like whatever i heard was waaay off the mark.I can now plan my ADRs with complete confidence. Now i know he can order steak without it being encrusted in something or a jus poured over it makes me so much happier:worship:

I ran into one exception to this -- Tutto Italia. They would not allow my 14 YO DS to order off the kids menu. We were paying out of pocket and had to spend $19 for a bowl of plain spaghetti. Never had a problem anywhere else, though, so you should be fine!:goodvibes

Our picky eater branched out tremendously once someone(Disney) finally recognized [preteen drama voice]she was no longer a child[/preteen drama voice].

I hear a lot of kids not finding anything to eat at O'Hana. We love the place but our youngest eats nothing off their standard menu. They have always offered us kid choices. We have had hot dogs, fries, grilled cheese and plan pasta brought at for her at O'Hana. If you have a child that has issues with the standard menu, do not hesitate to ask. The same can be said for HDDR and Garden Grill.
