Campsite questions for a FW Newbie

Hi everyone,

My DF & I are thinking about staying at a campsite for 5-6 days as part of our WDW HM!

We love camping & have done so many times in MA, VT, CA, UT, & AZ. We have never camped out in FL & have never even visited FW.

I was reluctant to choose the FW tent camping idea at first because I usually feel kinda grimy after our camping trips, but I'm assuming FW is a bit more modern as a campsite?

Questions:

1) How private & how large are the campsites? Are you at least separated by trees or are you right on top of the guests in the site next to you?

2) Do the campsites come with a picnic table or do you share one with your neighbors?

3) Can you hang a clothesline?

4) Any electric power or running water in the sites?

5) How far away are the bathrooms/showers?

6) How clean are the bathrooms/showers?

7) Does AAA offer a discount for the campsites? If so, how much?

8) Would early December or anytime in January be ok times to camp, weather-wise?

**9) What are some tips to keep your tent, suitcase, & gear safe from theft? We've never looked into this during regular camping trips because we've always either been completely by ourselves or had the car with us to lock away valuables. Do they have safes at FW or how does this work?

10) Fun stuff to do at FW for a newlywed couple? So far we plan to:
-Explore the trails, watch EWP from the beach, maybe rent a boat, visit with the parade horses

11) How much does the golf cart cost to rent? We were thinking about just renting one for fun for one day.

12) Are the sites relatively quiet at night? After 11pm I mean. Or are they usually fairly loud with kids and people bustling around?

Good morning, and welcome to the "dark side" of the dis-boards!

Congrats on your upcoming plans!!! My DH & I spent our HM at FtW back in 1974, and we're still happily married AND we continue to spend as much time at FtW as we can. So, two warnings... 1) look forward to a long & happy marriage,,,, 2) Include FtW plans in your budget from now on. One trip to FtW will not be enough!!

average size, they have been clearing so not as private as before.

2) Do the campsites come with a picnic table or do you share one with your neighbors?

each site has a table

yes

4) Any electric power or running water in the sites?

power and water on each site.

5) How far away are the bathrooms/showers?

according to where you are on the loop, not too much of a walk, request close to CS

6) How clean are the bathrooms/showers?

Extremely clean

7) Does AAA offer a discount for the campsites? If so, how much?

20 percent off

8) Would early December or anytime in January be ok times to camp, weather-wise?

sometimes yes sometimes no. I would bring a small portable heater.

keep stuff out of sight, yes there is lock boxes at front desk

$50.00 per day

usually quiet with occassional family passing by from late park hours.

You go girl! Part of your honeymoon at WDW...what a great idea. There's no lack of things to do and see. It's the best campground I've been to...my experience is limited to FL and in my former life (before children ) hubby and I camped from OH to Sturgis, SD (in a pup tent as we were on a Harley). The Fort is by far the best.

Yes it's quiet at night but there is always people out and about.


THAT MEANS YOU WILL HAVE TO BE QUIET IN YOUR TENT.
I know it's your Honeymoon but try not to scar some poor little kid for life.......

Thanks so much for that link! I just started looking through it, so I'll let ya know if I still have questions!!!

We will be traveling by plane and would prefer to bring our own gear. Is this still doable? At the very least, we'd like to bring our own tent, a tarp (very light and easy to pack), our sleeping bags & z-rests.

I can't see it being doable to pack an aerobed, but we should be fine with our z-rests I think. Are the campsites basically soft flat dirt or do they put down a concrete foundation or something?

the pad is ground shells, basically coarse sand, a sheet of plastic underneath would be nice. Check with the airlines as far as luggage restrictions as they are getting tough to carry extra bags or weight.

You can rent cots... but I don't think they have a king size cot
