Campsite & Cabin Reservation for September

We're doing a family trip the week of September 16-22 and have reserved a campsite (preferred) and a cabin. We had to do two separate reservations, which isn't a huge deal, but I'd really love to not be on opposite side of the Fort if possible. This is our first time at the Fort and I'd love some suggestions on what to request and when.

I'd bet snowmedic's maple syrup ration for the next year that you're gonna be on opposite sides of the Fort. Just sayin'. :confused3

I have stayed in Preferred sites (loops 100-300) the last several trips. There are two cabins in 100 loop for VIP's (my site last month was next to one). The chances of getting one of them (it has happened randomly) are asymptotically approaching zero. On the other hand, the cabin loops are at the other end of the Fort (loops 2200-2800).

If you're goal is to have locations close to each other, the campsite that gets reserved should be a Full site and request 2100 loop in your reservation (have to call to get that request in). The cabin folks should request 2200 or 2300 loops which are across a main road from the 2100 loop. You should also "link" reservations" which tells the Fort Cast Members assigning people to sites that "they want to be near me and I want to be near them". That means when you all reserve your Full site and your cabin sites, exchange reservation numbers (the long character string) and then call the WDW reservation line back and ask to add the other party's reservation number to yours to "link" those reservations together. That's the best way to try to get near each other if that's your goal.

Cabin folks can't really move so it's up to the people with the Preferred campsite to change to a Full, request 2100 (and get it), and do the linking to make this work.

It's that simple. :teacher:

A look at the Fort map will help. 2100 was converted from a cabin loop to a Full loop in the last year so the map is a little out of date.

PS - snowmedic likes his maple syrup ration (the real thing) and I like that HE likes his ration so I'm telling you to bet on a sure thing....

PPS - according to the Disney Res tool, a Full site is available for your dates (for that matter all four levels are still available)

The potential problem is that the reservations are already made with no requests. A friend of my daughter's is a Disney travel agent and she took care of it for me. Are we just out of luck? There will be 6 of us at the campsite and piling in the truck to get to them will be a pain.

Not a problem at all especially if you have an IN with a TA.

Have them change your reservation to a Full. (might be a Cancel/New behind the scenes but only a slight change for you-your original reservation should have had 1 night fee paid as a deposit - since a Full is cheaper than a Preferred, the NET effect on the deposits would be a small refund to you). But temporarily you would pay a Reservation/deposit for the new Full reservation and wait for the refund on the Preferred (takes a few day - up to a week)). They should be able to add a request - when I've call the WDW reservation line and asked for a request, the CM took it over the phone and I've gotten it EVERY time I checked in (or an apology that went like this - "oh I see you requested 900 loop but there is no space available there today. Would you like to stay in 1000"?).

I've never used a TA because there is no advantage that I can see to using one. My dates are pretty set most times, there are NO discounts for the Fort when I've traveled there, and I can control my reservation for sites, meals, activities. (If you call to change a reservation and you don't "own" that reservation (not who's the guest but who can make add/changes/deletes), you're out of luck).

Bottom line: a TA should be able to move your Preferred reservation to a Full, make requested loops for both cabin and site reservations, and be able to link them together. Disney CM's can and do and a TA sees the same system the Fort Cast Members do. If your TA doesn't know how, they can ask around and make it work for you. Because they are working for you.

PS - our family did multiple cabins on past trips. The big family vacations are a lot of fun but it's like herding cats trying to make anything happen at a certain time.

depend on where your site is you can use the internal buses. we were in a cabin with younger daughter and her family. older daughter and her family were in a travel trailer as we returned each night husband took bus to their site to feed our dog, long story short. he then took a bus to our loop but we were on same bus route. and your TA was able to change site types more than once for us granted different trips

Normally I would have made the reservation myself, but I wanted to help this girl earn some money. She gets paid by the agent she works for. I'll probably do them myself from now on though.

Does the 2100 loop have sites large enough for a 34.5 foot RV with slideout and awning? We have the same situation with needing a cabin and campsite and were originally considering 1100 and 2200 loops.

Yes, be sure and note the size of your rig on your reservation.
