Camping....

I am trying to find a campsite in Indiana to go to for a first time camper...

Anyone from around here that can help me?

Anyone with camping experience that can help me know what to look for? I am new to this!!!!

we don't camp, but I know many people camp at the state parks. If you live in Fishers, you are not far from Mounds State Park. Its just a few miles off I-69 North. I know there are many other parks in the state you might try the DNR for some different ideas.

Where about in Indiana were you thinking?

They have some beautiful state parks in the south part. There are Indiana Dunes at the north, and lots of stuff in between.

McCormicks Creek is really pretty, Wyandot park and caves are interesting. There is something about being in pitch black underground that makes you realize how small you really are.

We stayed at a nice place south of Fort Wayne a couple of summers ago.

They had two campgrounds, one with hydro hookups, showers, flush toilets etc. and one that was basically a wilderness campground with pit toilets, no running water in the bathrooms etc.

When we went there had been flooding and not many campsites were open. We checked out the campground with hydro hookup but the only available sites were all cramped in together. Most of the sites that could not be used because of the flooding looked very nice.

We ended up staying at the wilderness type campground and it was great. A little primitive but huge campsites, well treed and quite peaceful.

Shades State Park and Turkey Run are also really nice and there are canoe rentals nearby. Both parks have pretty nice trails and some nice historical landmarks, too.
