How many of you take your dogs (or cats) camping with you?
Not just to Fort Wilderness, but to other campgrounds too.

And how have they compared? (where the pets are concerned)

I only camped at the Fort, but always brought my dog with me. She spent her days in the kennel and nights at the site with us. She had a much better time before the other company came in. She never did go with us to the state parks in Georgia though, but most of them were dog friendly. We'd hike a trail or two a day and return home, so she stayed home.
It's one of the few acceptable places to bring your dog with you on vacation.

We take our dog, depending on where we're going. We stayed at Four Paws Kingdom in NC and it was absolutely wonderful. It's a dog-centric campground, so they completely cater to the pups.

We have camped from Pennsylvania down to Florida, all over Tennessee, Kentucky and Alabama with our pup. How does it compare ? She seems to like the smells at The Fort best. :thumbsup2

He loves the critters at the Fort. Other than wading into the ocean to hunt for crabs, I think Buddy would say that the Fort is his fav. He's a Silky Terrier and would hunt all day long if we let him. Notice his coloring matches the Forts. He goes camping with us everytime, if you want to call it that. But we never kennel him.

When she says they cater to the pups, she means it!! The pets even have a shower room!!

They have two dog parks (one for big dogs and one for little dogs), several agility courses, and lots of other stuff for the pups.

While I don't have pets, I have been to Four Paws and it is a cool campground for the humans too!! I had a nice pullthough site near the bath house and pavillion.

The Oktoberfest feast is FUN!!

Our dogs have camped with us from northern MI to southern FL, and many points in between. We try to choose large campgrounds with lots of places to walk, even if it's just long paved loops. The last campground we stayed in was small, with just one short gravel loop and more traffic than I'd ever imagined for a campground that size---it was really boring walking that over and over! Our dogs are large, and wearing them out with long walks is critical to our camping success :) Right now we have just the two dogs, but in the past we've camped with 3 big ones, and it's been fine.

We take our 72 pound lap dog with us everywhere. She's a fairly well behaved, spoiled 7 year old yellow lab. She's camped with us since she was 10 weeks old. We kenneled her once when we were chaperones at band camp at Beaver's bend, OK. She was so unhappy that she hardly ate, which is so unlike her. She gets so excited when we load the fiver and hook up the truck. She's camped in Texas State parks and private resorts, Colorado, Tennessee, D.C. and many other states and campgrounds/resorts (too many to list). Of course she likes the Fort the best, just like us.

Checked out the web site and when you said dog-centric, you weren't kidding. Too bad it's so far away.

You must be a dog lover to have stayed there.

It was actually a T@B rally. Enjoyed the company of fellow T@B owners.

We only camp at The Fort and our dogs love it. They are crate trained, so when we go into the parks we put them in their crates with the air on and the radio. If we didn't crate them at home, we wouldn't at The Fort. All we have to say is "We'r going to Disney World" and they get excited.

We have never camped with out our dogs. We have never had any problems. We have stayed in state parks and private camp grounds.

:wave2:

Our 3 lunatics have camped at the Fort several times and at state parks up this way a few times as well.

Having the dog park and dog walks at the Fort are a HUGE plus in our book. Plus the girls love to go for rides on the golf cart.

We always camp with our dogs. We camped in a tent at some state parks and such with our oldest from the time we got him (he was a year and a half old) until we got a permanent seasonal site. Our younger dog came from a family who was also a seasonal camping family at the campground. Therefore our little boxweiler has been camping from the first night we had her. We did the crate thing with the youngest until she was about a year old. Now we can leave the both in the TT with the AC and television on and they are completly content. We also camped the last two weekends with our two dogs and my sister-in-laws two dogs and had no problems. We left all four of them, a chow-retriever mix (our little boy), a boxweiler (our little girl), a doberman (SIL's big baby), and a beagle (the SIL's other baby) all alone together in the AC and it was a big snorefest for them while we were out and about at the campground.

If we were to ever go somewhere else besides our seasonal site to camp, such as the Fort you bet our dogs would be right there with us......

Ours love camping, hiking and biking (we load them into a modified kiddy trailer and they ride around like royalty). We never leave home without 'em!

We never leave home without 'em!

Ditto! They enjoy camping SO much in fact, that they made us buy them a new TT just for them...

...and of course the first thing we did was rip out the extra couch/bunk and install 3 luxury suites (er... crates)! :upsidedow

Yeah, but they more than earn their keep in entertainment value alone. ;)
