This past weekend we finally got out for our first trip of the season. Since we would only be 20 minutes from home, we thought we would take that dogs and see how they did (figuring if they were horrible, I could take them home and the neighbor would watch them). Our beagle is 12 and has never been a good camping dog. No matter what we tried, she was a barker so we quit taking her and left in the care of our neighbors who love her too. Well in January we adopted a 3 year old boxer mix and we really want her to enjjoy camping so we thought we would give it a go. Sadie ( our old beagle) was wonderful and Stella (our newest) was great!!! We were so excited. They were not barky, Stella was social with other dogs and when we left them in the camper (with the air on for noise) and went a site over to visit with friends, they were quiet. Even when the neighbors dog started barking, mine were quiet!!! HOORAY!!!! I was just excited, this means we can take them with us next time we head down to FW (which might be a bit, but still)!!!

That's great! We couldn't imagine camping without our little furry kiddos. Now, camping without our regular kids....:rolleyes1

Aw, that's great that it worked out and you can bring the babies now! I used to bring my collie and Eskie everywhere. After they passed (sniff, sniff), we rescued our current mixed breed. She's the best family dog ever -- perfect camper. Then she blew out *both* her knees ($$$$$$!!). Now the poor gal has a hard time with stamina or anything too rugged. We sometimes have to leave her home and we miss her like CRAZY.

<Thread drift over>

Glad you gave Sadie another shot and it worked out!

That's such a good feeling. After having dogs destroy the curtains, blinds and screen door (separation anxiety) while in the camper, we now kennel them up when we leave. They seem much happier and don't bark. Until I saw how they would do, I worried each time about taking them with us.

I know your breathing a sigh of relief!
