Hi--we are researching the possibility of renting an RV and staying at Ft. Wilderness for our next WDW vacation. Over the years, we've stayed at many of the resorts both on and off-site, but next time I'd like to do something a little different. Plus, last year we went to Mickey's Backyard BBQ and liked what we saw of Ft. Wilderness.

Our kids will be 3, 5, and 9. They tend to tire out early on vacation (like by 9 p.m.) and are up at the crack of dawn--sometimes by 5 or 6 a.m. because they are so excited to go to the parks.

So I'm wondering what the noise level is like around the campground at night. Will it be too noisy for my early-to-bed kids?

This would be our first time camping as a family--any advice would be appreciated.

Thanks.

I find it much quieter than having screaming/running kids run up and down the hall/breezeway or in the room above or below me. :thumbsup2

Good point!

So far, we've lucked out with having quiet hotels. Our last stay was at Wyndham Bonnet Creek, and before that was Saratoga Springs. Or maybe we were just so tired, we didn't hear anything! lol

Your question sparked a memory of the last time Grumpy and I were at the fort, I was sitting in my rocker enjoying my early morning coffee and kept hearing this odd sound.. a kerplump...kerplump..... I looked all around and finally noticed it was little seed caps falling into the canal from a tree on our site....it was a peaceful pleasent sound.....I'm used to hearing sirens and cars zooming by from my front porch at home.
We usually go the Fort in September...and we have always been in the 1400 loop, which is in the center of the action....it's usually very quiet at night. I can't say what the noise level is like in really crowded season.

We tend to be early to bed folk also. I remember once when we stay'd at a Disney resort hotel, the room above us had kids that thought it was time to practice hoops IN THE ROOM with a basket ball after the parks closed !!,
That happened for two nights before we finally got a stop put to it.

You will like the Fort much better, :thumbsup2

We find that overall the Fort at night has been really quiet when we have been there... Depending on what loop and which site you get, you may get some engine noise from the busses as they go about their rounds in the campground.

What we do at the Fort, or any other campground for that matter, is to turn on the fans on the A/C's (move the switch from auto to on) so that the white noise of the fans will drown out any noise from the outside.

You won't have any issues with noise at the Fort. The kids and you as well, will probably be asleep before your head hits the pillow.

My experience has been that it tends to be nosier in the morning than at night. I think that by the time 9:00 pm rolls around all of the kids are so tired that they crash.

The air conditioner in our hybrid is so loud it drowns out everything which is great for sleeping. During the day I'm not so happy with it though, I wonder if that's normal for RV rooftop A/Cs? Our popup didn't have one- just the portable, so I don't really have anything to compare it too.

Anyway, the hybrid has tent ends and we've never had any noises keep us awake or wake us up early. You could always bring a fan along for a little white noise to drown things out. :)

I agree with the noise from the buses, thats usually it except for a stray oddball sometimes. Much quieter than most campgrounds.

The last time we camped at the Fort was in 2006 (planning to go again in June). It was pretty quiet for the most part (and we do the tent camping). In 2006, our daughters were 5 1/2 and 2 1/2, so we were early to bed and early to rise. The 1st night, it was a little louder/harder to sleep... you could hear music/ boat whistles, the fireworks... but we weren't worn out from a long day at the parks... We heard nothing the rest of the week.

As for being early risers... Hopefully you won't have much issues. Apparently, we were next to a grump the first night/day at Disney. YDD squealed once around 6:15 when we told her we were going to eat a quick breakfast and then head over to the MK- and I quickly told her to quiet down so we didn't wake anyone else and we promptly got yelled at and told off by a lady walking from the comfort stations to the site next to us to shut "that child up" and if she were to wake her kids up, she would come over and shut her up herself... (I have no idea who she was but apparently the Disney magic wasn't working for her...:scared1:.... Of course DH who is a light sleeper told me later that apparently her family was giggling and carrying on until probably 2 am ... Didn't bother me though, as I am a pretty heavy sleeper. LOL) But we had no other issues... and loved the trip.

I agree with the other posts, the only sounds you hear late at night are the fireworks.

We did have one camper let their very young child play outside around 6:00am who thought it was really cool to make train sounds as loud as possible. He woke up the entire loop!

You will occasionally get placed next to someone who has left an unhappy dog in their RV that insists on howling and barking all day long (even though you are in a non-pet loop). If you have that happen to you, the only thing you can ask to do is move to another site.

Have fun!

I can hear the owner of that dog now: "That's not a dog barking in an RV, that's the howl of a wolf of the wilderness! Enjoy!"
