My Dad looks like he is buying a new truck and very large 5th wheel camper for the whole family to use. (we are all out of the house but my Dad says it's for everyone to use)

I was wondering about RV/camper sites at Fort Wilderness...Are they nice? How much $$$/per night?...Is the location nice? Is it easy to get to the parks? Can you drive to the parks from your lot? Is there laundry facilities nearby?

Just hoping some people can tell me their good and not-so-good experiences there...Would you recommend staying off-site instead?

Thanks a bunch

Driving from CA to Disney, I would stay at FW!

While the price is higher than campgrounds outside the park, when you factor in what you are getting it is usually a fair price.

In a word, YES!

How much $$$/per night?...
The pricing is diffetent depending on the time of year. More popula times are higher.

Is the location nice?
FW is well situated in the World

Is it easy to get to the parks? Can you drive to the parks from your lot?
YOu can drive or take the Disney buses. Parking at all parks is included in your nightly fee.

Is there laundry facilities nearby?
Every comfort station has washers and driers, but they are a little pricey.

Check out my web page below and you should get a lot of the information you are looking for

You can also take a boat directly from FW to MK. A boat also goes from FW to Contemporary where you can pick up the monorail and make connections to MK or Epcot.

WOOOWWWW!!!

What great info...We would be looking at 2 first weeks of December in a preferred/full hook-up site...$49 to $53 seems quite good but again I'm a newbie and don't have anything to compare.

Nice site and thanks for all the help...

I was unaware of the boat from there to MK so that is a BIG plus...Thanks:wave:

Are there any sites that are better for mobility challenged people like my DH? He is not in a wheelchair but has a hard time walking up inclines or long distances without stopping for a rest on a bench...Usually at WDW we do fine because there is always a bench nearby...Any ideas of which sites ask for if booking?

Thanks again....Maybe we will plan a trip alot sooner if we have this option...We have never stayed on-site and this sounds sooo nice. I hear campers are the nicest people, I hope it's true...:earsboy: :earsgirl:

Just ask for a loop that has a bus stop at the loop entrance and a site near the loop entrance.

All the bus stops have benches, but not all loops have a bus stop at the loop entrance. Just explain your needs and they room assigner should be able to work it out.

Welcome to the camping lifestyle. You are in for a treat!

Since you're new to camping you may not have much to compare FW to, but let me tell you...FW is a first-rate campground. In all our years of camping FW is the nicest...and most expensive...campground we've been to. I tell all my buddies I give Mickey my money with a big, sloppy smile on my face. We just love the place and visit several times a year.

I would recommend taking a couple camping trips in your local area to get a feel for what you'll be needing as far as camping supplies, tools, etc. You probably won't want to spend time during your Disney vacation running to WalMart for camping gear.

We don't go overboard bringing a lot of food. Part of the charm of FW is eating at the restaurants on site. Usually burger and dogs are the most we bring along.

Personally, I would not drive my vehicle to the Parks. Disney transportation has always fulfilled our needs. The ferry boat ride from FW is an enjoyable trip in itself and part of the charm of FW. Yes, parking is free since you're considered a resort guest...but why fight the traffic?

Bring bikes, if you can. It's fun to ride around the campground, meet other campers, and look at other rigs.

The petting zoo is nice if you have kids.

If you buy the mugs your refills are free every day of your stay. It really paid off for us.

Don't want to make this too long. Feel free to ask more questions. A lot of people here are FW experts.

Are there any "downsides to RVing at WDW???

We usually stay in a condo like Orange Lake villas and love it but I hope to like RV-*** as well.

I'm a little GIRLY when it comes to bugs but I can handle anything as long as I am at WDW...

The only thing that has bothered me: people speeding through the campground. Some of the worst offenders are Disney employees...mostly the guys in the white service trucks, some bus drivers. Occasionally, campers speed in/out, but I believe your fellow campers are more aware of the speed limit than the employees who are there year-round.

PhotoBear, Welcome to the wonderful world of camping!

FW isn't the priciest we've stayed at (Encore down in the Everglades beat FW.). But it isn't too much more than any other resort type campground.

As CampinCorgi said, the only bad thing about FW is they eventually make you leave!

By the enthusiasm I hear in your voice, I think you'll really enjoy the camping lifestyle!

I hear campers are the nicest people, I hope it's true...
Personally, I happen to agree with this statement! :jester: Campers are always willing to lend a hand.

Have fun! :sunny:

:Pinkbounc :bounce: :Pinkbounc :bounce: Now if Dad could just make up his mind about which 5th wheel and truck to buy...He wants it perfect. He's looking at a 2004 Ram 2500 and a 32 foot long Cougar 5th wheel...I think I have that right...With all the talking he has done on the phone at work these past days...I should know it by heart. ;)

He did it....He bought a 2003, 2500 4x4 Chev Diesel 4 door truck...I think I got that right...and a Ceardar Creek 29LRLBS 5th wheel.

I can't wait to try it out.

I'm very lucky to have parents who gave us the world growing up and still think of us like this.

:bounce: :Pinkbounc Can't wait till we get it. It's a 2004 and needs to be built but we should have it in 6 weeks...:bounce: :Pinkbounc I'm going:tongue:  just thinking about it.

Hope to see you all someday at FW:wave2:

Congratulations to you and yours, PhotoBear! Here's wishing you happy smiles to go with lots of miles!! :sunny:

at time of res mention special needs and request 300 loop, with site near front, bus stop is right in front, it's a preferred loop so you will pay a little more but it satisfies bus stop need
and then 4 days before arrival fax a request direct to fw, suposedly fax requests are no longer welcome/honored but this is a special needs case, also check out allearsnet, deb wills site, there is a lot of info on special needs, including phone for guest services special needs unit
btw practice backing into right angle parking, we have f-350 deisel pulling jayco 26 5th wheel, i have a lot of experience and dw is a farm girl and we both thought some of the sites a little tight on the backing angle
imo fw is finest campground we have ever stayed at, only reason we stopped camping at fw is because we bought dvc
we may still camp in future if we use all our points some year for exchange properties
fw 315, june 98 in pop-up
fw site 321, dec 99, pop-up
fw site 1331, june 02, 5th wheel, plus 2 large golden retrievers, thus mandatory pet loop
