Camping in St. Augustine

We are headed to the Fort on April 15 and normally hit the KOA's on the way down from New York. This year I wanted to stop for a day and a night in St. Augustine and was thinking about breaking away from our routine. I have been looking at North Beach Camp resort since it's very close to the shore. I would appreciate any experience anyone has had with this campground or if you might recommend another place you have stayed at. Thanks!

KOA is not he best. We have stayed their twice, but the 2nd time we decided never again (tight, broken wash machines, unclean bathrooms, and expensive) We are reserved at Anastaia State Park April 12-15, but it's hard to get in short notice

We like North Beach . . . just a few miles north on A1A.

If you don't mind no hookups, there is an incredible state park there right on the beach, forget the name. We stayed just one night on our way down from NY last year. Which route do you take, driving through DC was an absolute nightmare, hours in dead stop traffic. It was so bad we just crashed in area at truck stop.

My favorite campground near St. Augustine is Beverly Beach. All sites are 50A, they are right on the break wall to the beach, a reasonable drive to St. Augustine and Daytona Beach. DC traffic is all about timing, get it wrong and you are just stuck on I95 S of DC for hours.

tinkerdorabelle, I think the state park you are talking about is Anastasia State Park. We have been avoiding the north part of rt95 altogether and taking 81,77,26,95(south carolina) and haven't had any traffic issues. The hills are the biggest issue we have encountered.

jbrosteck, I checked out the beverly beach website and all I have to say is WOW! It doesn't look like you could get any closer to the ocean. I am going to give them a call in the morning to see if by chance there is a site available.
We are going to camp in St. Augustine for only one night and Beverly Beach looks like a place you could spend a week. Thanks for the info!

We used to do a week there and a week at Disney. The past few years we been doing the whole two weeks at Disney as our home base. I love that location, they are pet friendly and overall I loved it. Don't be alarmed with A1A that close, I would get a beach access site on the south end just before the tent area and never once noticed the traffic over the sweet sound of the ocean with my window cracked.

north beach is awesome,sandy ,shaded lots, not paved, ocean on 1 end, river on the other. 3 great restaurants , and you can use your golf cart to get around. , big place, bring bikes if no cart....

For 16 years, we would vacation 7 days at Disney and stop at Beverly Beach on our way home to Rhode Island. When it was time to retire, we spent 2 months at Beverly Beach, and ended up buying a home down the road in Palm Coast, FL. Been here 9 years now and go by Beverly Beach about once a week. The sites up front are very nice. Second row, also good. Across the street is nice, but you have to cross A1A to get to the beach, or see the water. None of the sites are spacious, so don't expect lots of room, but you do have enough. Of course, the sites are not cheap because of the location, view, location, view, location. Easy drive about 30 miles north to St. Augustine. Pics are from 2007.
