Forgive me if this has already been covered.....I've done several searches but nothing is coming up!

We're considering making one last trip to the world before our AP's run out this fall and can only afford to camp at FW.

We realize it'll be HOT and we'll bring a fan to keep cool but what we're really wondering is how bad the mosquitoes will be that time of year?

Anyone care to share their experiences camping in September?

I've never camped in September (but have done July/August). Even then, I don't recall the bugs being very bad. Nothing like Arkansas mosquitoes, but maybe that's because I've built a tolerance to them. Play it safe. Bring bug spray. Stores also carry those clip on bug repellents that work well. Citronella candles help a little, but get one specifically for mosquitoes. I never go camping without my bug support system.

IMHO, September is one of the best months to go to the Fort. It's usually quiet during the week and picks up on the weekend with locals. Two years ago we were in 2000 loop and checked in on Wed. night. We were the only ones in the loop. It was kinda surreal. Last year, changed the ressies from popup to cabin because of Fay. Again, Fort was VERY quiet. It's almost bizzare, because one of the treasures of the Fort is looping and looping an empty loop just is much fun. :confused3

The bugs at the site don't seem to be real bad at all. Down by the lake though for fireworks viewing and electrical light parade, be prepared.:scared1:
It is hot during the day, but the nights tend to cool off, by Florida standards.
The biggest drawback with Sept. is we are in the heart of hurricane, tropical storm season. Can make planning a real challenge. Good luck.:thumbsup2

I grew up in FL and from what I recall, mosquitos are worse at the beginning of Summer (like right now) than they are at the end. Regardless, come prepared because you never know!!!
I am with you FlaFortCampster, worse than bugs or mosquitos are hu..hu...hurrrrricanes!!:scared:

We arrived last year on Sept. 27th, the weather was very pleasant and warm, but it wasn't humid at all.

Thanks for all the comments so far......good to know about the mosquitoes down by the beach at night FlaFortCampster.

I was hoping we wouldn't need bug spray, but I suppose its always good to bring some no matter when your camping. Thanks for reminding me about the citronella candles lorac4disney. :thumbsup2

As for the hurricanes, unfortunately, we're well aware of that possibility! We camped once in October and endured 3 tropical storms in the 2 weeks we were there.....they even had tornado warnings in the area, but back then, I guess Disney didn't feel the need to 'evacuate' like they do now :sad2:.....we spent one night in our car 'for safety'.

I remember it was very humid that time we camped, but it had also been raining. If there are no tropical storms or hurricanes, the weather should be nice. Of course, we have no idea what the weather will be like until a week before we get there.....who knows, if there is a hurricane brewing, we may just have to cancel!

I've been at the Fort in all seasons and quite frankly I don't remember bugs at all. They just don't mess with me I guess - if they bite me they die! Alcohol poisoning.......

:lmao: Guess my DH will have no problem then either!

Sept is when we do our longest stay. Usually a full week or more then. And I like it a lot. Of course we use a room a.c. unit propped on the table to keep it cool.

The most annoying thing are the love bugs. But that's more in august and may.

And Disney will generally take care of thier guests who wish to ride out the storms if anything pops up in the tropics.

Go for it, and enjoy it. You might even be able to get to one of the first halloween parties.

Just made our Labor Day weekend reservation today...will be younger DS's birthday so we'll be over at the Studios on Star Tours for most of the trip. :)
Last time we were booked for Labor Day it was 2004 I think, which of course Disney cancelled due to probably the third hurricane that year.

I was just down there and the bugs weren't bad. My wife said she saw them spraying, so I would imagine they keep it under control that way. I expected it to be worse than it was, especially with all the standing water right now due to all the recent rain.

They'll treat the standing water though so the nasty, blood suckers can't get started. The only problem with skeeters I've ever had at the Fort was at the lake and that was only a couple of times in over 35 years of visits. Not too bad. Now if I could just knock them down around the house, saw one last night trying to carry my cat off.
