HI! I just joined the boards. I've been to Disney at least 100 times, and my family is looking to return in January. Last time we stayed in the cabins at Ft Wilderness, and loved the environment there. Since then, we have acquired a pop up camper and are looking into camping. A few questions:

1 - is it worth it to get a premium spot with a pop up?

2 - does it make a difference in how close the bathrooms are :)

3 - if we bring our little beagle dog, is there doggy day care at Ft Wilderness?

4 - we will be there Jan 2-8. Will folks still have their Christmas lights up??

Thanks for any insight!!

Welcome to the boards, fellow pop-up camper. We've camped at the Fort in January and we had a blast! Here's what I know:

1. - We've decided to skip Premium for the next trip and go with Full-Hookup. It's an individual choice of course, but we didn't think the extra expense was worth it.

2. - To my 8 and 4 year old...yes!

3. - I believe the one at the Fort is closed and there is now a more centrally located doggy day care.

4. - Most definitely!

Have a great trip!

1 - is it worth it to get a premium spot with a pop up? We always go with FULL HOOK UP. I feel the sites are bigger. I don't mind riding my bike to the "settlement". We are closer in ways to the pool. I think it all depends in what you prefer.

2 - does it make a difference in how close the bathrooms are Not really...but if you have young kids it helps to be close.

3 - if we bring our little beagle dog, is there doggy day care at Ft Wilderness? No, its located off of Bonnet Creek Rd.

4 - we will be there Jan 2-8. Will folks still have their Christmas lights up?? Many still have their decorations up and others have them taken down. We will be there in January too.

Hello -- we are at the Ft. beginning January 2nd through the 7th. If you see any crazy folks from Nebraska, don't be worried -- stop and say "hello" :-)

bigred,
ya never know, we may end up sharing a fish'n hole at the Fort, :confused3

Don't ya havta be a little crazy to live in Nebraska in the winter ?

There are comfort stations in most loops. How close they are does not sedend on whether it is primium or full hookup. It just depends on which loop it is and where your site is in the loop. You can request a spot near a CS in your reservation.

Welcome. We will also be at the Fort from Dec.23-Jan.10. As to your questions in regards to premium versus full the biggest advantage, in my opinion, is location. We like being close to the settlement so we try to book preferred sites.
I would also remind you that the comfort stations also include the guest laundry. If you may be doing laundry ( I have three teenagers - who make alot of laundry) you may find the distance to the comfort station very important.:)
Many of the campers will still have their Christmas decorations up, as well as Disney.
I hope that you have a wonderful time and enjoy your planning!

Welcome fellow popup owner! :welcome:

1. I have camped all over the fort. And a popup can do well anywhere. I am fine witht the Partial sites. They are the cheapest and there are two loops 1500 and 2000. 1500 is close to the pool and 2000 has a shortcut thru 900 to the pool so either is fine. I use a bucket to catch my gray dishwater and empty it every few days in the big sink of the Comfort Station laundry room. Worth the savings to me.

2. IMO the comfort stations aren't far away from anywhere but as Ken said you can nrequest to be placed close to one if you want.

3. The kennel at the fort is no longer in operation. As others said, you will need to board your dog at the centralized kennel across from Port Orleans.

4. Some campers might still have their christmas lights out after new years but the theme parks and the fort will be put away either by jan 1 or jan 2.

Please ppost a trip report if you can. We love TR's. :woohoo:
