Well, not really. I have pre purchased tickets to the first showing of the new Star Wars movie for me and my oldest. I do however expect others will be camping outside their local theaters for this though.

May the squirrels be with you...

I am waiting until after the new year to attempt the crowds. Being laid off, I can wait until everyone returns to normal life and got to an early showing. Just not going to fight the crowds the first few weeks.

Understood, I betting on this 12pm showing not being as mobbed since kids still in school and others at work.

Fingers crossed anyway...

On some of the other forums, they are quoting $100m in presales. The opening weekend record is $208m. If correct, they are half way there and it hasn't even opened. And reports of additional theaters and 24 hour continuous shows being added today.

I'm with Chris. I'll wait out the big crowds before attempting to see it. Unless it looks like they need my 3 tickets to put it over the $208. Then I'd have to take one for the team. :D

I hope it is faithful to the original three movies. I remember waiting on the sidewalk during the summer of 197? For the 1st SW. JJ Abrams did a good job withe the "young Star Trek" movies so i am optimistic....

Bama Ed

Ps i will see it at least twice before New Years

I won't post any spoilers I promise.

Ed, that would be 1977. I don't remember it or Empire Strikes Back, but I remember waiting on the sidewalk for Return of the Jedi.

Yall know Nick Saban played in Star Wars...

He was the Force...

Sorry I couldn't help it, I see that on Pinterest. Gotta head back offshore tomorrow for a month, hopefully I can see when I get back home in January.

I don't think I can do the "Crowd" on opening weekend, nor would I try. There is very little that I will "Camp out" for outside a store/theater/etc and I don't think Star Wars will be on that list of what I would camp out for. I am excited to see it though. I agree with Ed that Abrams did a good job with the Star Trek re-visit so I am excited to see how he did with Star Wars.

When Stars Wars Episodes 1 - 3 came out, I tried to get my kids to watch them in the proper order (IV, V, VI, I, II, III) but they were having none of that. Oh well, their loss (in my mind).

1) Upon which planet are you living?
. . . the squirrels must have gotten to you
2) ANY showing will be mobbed.
3) There are just too many Star Wars Fans waiting for this release.
. . . the absentee lists at many companies will be long-long-long
. . . it is strange the amount of 24-hour-flu cases that start on Dec-18th
. . . the CDC might want to investigate this plague/decease
4) After Jar-Jar-Binks, we are STARVED for plots and scenes more like the Episodes 4-5-6.

I live on Kashyyyk, home of the wookies...and saber tooth squirrels.

This is why I bought tickets in advance.

I will once again be cheering for the Dark Side. I like their uniforms better...and I'm partial to black and red...especially crimson colors.

We bought tickets through Fandango back in October. Thursday night, 7:00pm.

I'm thinking we'll be there by 6:00pm and should have no problems since we're already pre-paid.

We bought tickets through fandango the day after they became available. We're going Saturday, but only have to stand in line to get our tickets. We are seeing it in a reserved seat theater so we already have our seats :-).

DH and I were dating when Empire came out and we stood in line in DC to see it. Our boys are 29 and 32 and both have seen every movie in the original order. DDIL and DS (29) are going on Friday and again on Sat with us. Oldest DS birthday is this week so that's part of his birthday gift.

This is my oldest DD and me "kick'n it at the movie theater.

No spoilers, please, in this thread.

I have the original three movies on dvd to watch this weekend with DD before going to see the new one. Got to prepare her properly...

None will be given.

Far better than prequels. Then again, so are kidney stones.

Well worth the admission. Back on track.

Good mix of the old and the new.

Wow

$238 million gross so far in North America for the weekend. Completely shatters the previous record of $208 million for a opening weekend and it isn't even over yet.

Filming for episode 8 starts next month.

Saw it today at 12:00, theater was not quite full. Great movie, back to the original premise of the first three. Never much liked the three prequels. Now the wait begins for the next installment.

Here in central Texas, we have Alamo Drafthouse Cinema. The great feature of them is that you can reserve your seat. The premise is they bought existing theaters and removed every other row of seats and installed a tables. This allows them to serve snacks, sandwiches, full meals and beverages including adult beverages.
Our kids went to see Star Wars today with a group of ten, knowing what seat they would be in.
