My husband and I are currently planning a camping trip to WDW for August/05. I'm not a big nature lover- I love camping-but I don't love the critters- will this be a big concern for me?? We will be in a tent!

Anyone else camp at WDW??? What did you like about it? Dislike?

We've stayed at All-Star resorts before and loved the atmosphere and convenience of it. When I was a kid my family camped at Disney (we had an RV though).

And having tented @ FW x2 (never again in the summer....too hot & humid, lol!), I didn't have a problem with critters. Disney does a great job spraying for bugs. Barely a skeeter bite, even. We did see a few small toads near the trees, but they were a bit afraid of us, and quickly hopped along. We have seen rabbits, and other such gentle critters. Luckily no snakes to speak of! I have seen a gator, but that was near the treehouse villas (now closed).

You will love the campground! Definitely hop over to the Camping Forum! You will get lots more info there! ::MickeyMo

Thanks- I didn't see that there was a camping forum-I'll head there! I guess I'm mostly nervous about snakes! Ugh- I even have trouble typing it! Thanks again for the welcome. I think this was a good find!

Years and years ago I was in Fort Wilderness and a armidillo walked right past me and my sister. I think it was an armidillo. If it wasn't, it was some sort of large animal with a hard looking shell like thing over it.

Welcome to the DIS! :earsgirl: This place is addictive.

We visit WDW in August every year, and it is very hot and humid. I am a nature loving camper, but I would not stay in a tent at Ft. Wilderness during the summer. I think it would be extremely uncomfortable.

We just returned from Ft. Wilderness on Monday...It was a wonderful trip. My husband enjoyed this resort more than any of the others we have stayed at! Mostly because of all of the wildlife. We saw lots of armadillos, deer, peacocks, bunnies, squirrels, frogs, but no snakes. Have you thought about staying in the cabins? We got a great rate with a code. It would be a good thing to have an air conditioner if visiting in the summer. Or might you visit during another time of year? The tent sites are beautiful, secluded and wooded, and I think at the right time of year I'd like to camp there myself. :sunny:

There is a camping forum on the DIS where you can search for more Ft. Wilderness information!

Happy Planning! ::MickeyMo
