Help! we are looking for nice affordable campgrounds in Williamsburg and Virginia Beach area. We are working our way down the coast towards Disney. One day we may actually make it to Fort Wilderness.

We really liked the Anvil Campground in Williamsburg (www.anvilcampground.com/) . It's small, but has the plus of being on the city bus line to get you to all the major attractions (a big plus if you don't have/want to take a car). It's also in biking distance to Colonial Williamsburg. We were real happy there and thought it was well maintained and nice. It's not a resort type campground, but very nice. I think we paid $28/night last year. Might have been less after the good sam discount. Planning/hoping to go back this fall.

This state park is one of the nicest I've ever visited. Don't let the ferry scare you. It's free, and very easy to use. We had reservations at a private campground (frankly I can't remember the name) near Williamsburg. We spent one night there and packed up and moved. We were SOOOO glad we did. The pool at the state park is very nice, and there's quite a bit of bank accessible fishing. Restrooms were very nice and clean, sites were easy to use, etc.

The VA beach campgrounds consist of the First Landing state park (never stayed there and with location would rather not), the KOA is ok, but I love Holiday Trav-L-Park. You may view Holiday's website at www.htpvabeach.com They have a ton of things to do including 6 playgrounds, 4 pools, nightly entertainment at the main pool, bingo, hayrides, nightly movies for the kids, putt putt, a small store, kids programs, trolley service to the beach and the Marine Science Museum as well as access to a local health club. My family and I have stayed at this campground almost yearly for the past 27 years. We also stayed in one in Williamsburg for a night, but it wasn't that great.....I can't remember the name though. It wasn't very far from Busch Gardens, maybe a 5 min. drive.
