We are planning on tent camping last 2 weeks of August. Coming from Ontario, Canada. We are heading down to Huntington state park in S.C for 3 nights and then to the Fort for 7 nights then to Myrtle Beach state park for 3 nights then home! I know it will be hot, we camped in Viginia Beach and Washington DC for a week a few years ago during July and surrvived! Anyone been to S.C and those specific state parks? The fort looks awsome and we are so ready to camp at Disney! We are a family of 6 and have always camped since the kiddo's were babies, they are all teens now! I have a few questions?

1. I am worried about the size of the sites, we have 2 large tents and a screen house, are you allowed to go off the pad provided at all? (We have booked basic site)

2. We travel with a utility trailer to haul all our gear can we park that at the site or off site? Off site would be better as we would have more room, didn't know if there is overflow parking?

3. Can you leave coolers out of your vechicle and rubbermaid bins out? I am used to car camping in north Ontario where critters are a huge problem and everything needs to be kept in your vechicle and I am worried with high temps the van will be a cookhouse! Can you buy ice somwhere within the campground?

4. I have read no fires unless in an approved enclosed fire pit, we have one in our backyard that is coved at top and bottom, this is ok? Where do you get wood? and are there usually fire bans in August? If so won't bother packing it.

I think that's it for now! Thanks so much in advance for answering any of my questions! Very excited about camping at the fort!:)

We're not tent campers so probably can't answer questions about site sizes.

We have camped at Huntington State Park several years ago - we liked it.
Also, the same trip *tried to stay* at Myrtle Beach State Park - they gave us a site that was just sand (maybe most are) and we had a TT at the time and got stuck big time - had to have a tow truck get us out - needless to say no fond memories of that, left there and went to Huntington St. Pk. Don't remember hook ups at Myrtle Beach, maybe they have them now. But, it was *so* hot (July).

Anyway, guess you know what you are in for with the heat/humidity situation at FW. It is *hot/humid*. We could never do it, and I'm a southern girl, through and through. ;) Actually, you may not be prepared for the difference in the sun's rays from the DC/Virginia area to FL. Believe it or not, it *can* be much hotter/humid in FL.

:welcome: to FW and the best of trips to you!

I do not know about the MB state park, but we have camped at PirateLand and it was wonderful! It is about 2-5 minutes furthur down the road from MB state park.

They were super nice, and had lots of family activities. We really enjoyed it there.

I saw tents off the pad area when we were there around Christmas. There is overflow parking near the check-in area. Be sure to get a parking pass for the trailer so they don't have it towed off. They will automatically give you one for your tow vehicle. You can leave stuff outside, but it has been recommended that some means of securing the lids be employed against small critters. Ice is available at the two trading posts and at all comfort stations. the ice at the Trading Posts seems to be colder and is in a slightly larger bag. The ice at the CS's is dispensed from a machine into bags that are provided near the machine. Fire bans are common, and otherwise when they say enclosed top, they mean a solid top, not mesh. Enjoy your trip.

Most times there is a fire ban on. We have decided to not bother and pack a pit or wood anymore and enjoy the fire at the singalong/movie.

Thanks everyone for your info! I'm sure I will have more questions as I plan things out!
