We'd like to view the Christmas decorations that many campers put up at FW. We've heard about it from bus drivers and the holiday special on the travel channel. What loops should we concentrate on? We'll be walking around with our secret flasks to keep us warm.

If you are entering the Fort at the main entrance, whether by bus or car, hop on one of the internal (Yellow, Orange or Purple) buses and take it to the Settlement Depot. From there, you can easily walk to several loops including 700, 400, 500, 100-300...and more if you like. Definitely check out 700 and 100...they are the closest to the Settlement Area. You can also easily check out the Settlement, including Pioneer Hall, Trails End and the Settlement Trading Post from here. It's fun to sit on the porch at Trails End and people watch, especially in the evening when folks line up for the Hoop De Doo.

How long of a walk is it to take in a couple of the loops for two adults?

I've always wanted to see some of the decorated sights and DW and I are planning to do one of the carriage rides so we'll be over there anyway...

If you start out in the Settlement area, not long at all. Several of the biggest displays are within 5-10 minutes walking distance. Check out the 100 loop (you can see it just past the Trading Post) and the end of the 700 loop - walk straight out of the Settlement and you can't miss those.

HERE is a map for reference.

If you're really feeling adventurous, head up the main road towards 1600. I think he's just about finished his massive endeavor.

There aren't a ton of other lights up just yet, but they're growing by the day.

Hoping to go looping with the camera in the next few days and post some pics. :santa:

Maybe we'll just take the boat over on Dec 4th and walk around. Only a mile from the dock to the back end? That's nothing. Hopefully plenty of decorations up by then (two weeks from tomorrow!). Thanks for the map link, too. That helps visualize everything.

We did just this walk last week - the 100 loop then the 700 loop. We took it at a leisurely pace and it took about 30-45 minutes start to finish. It was so dark, though, that we couldn't see any green ears.

Thanks everyone. We'll be coming from AKV, so not sure if we'll be taking bus straight to FW or checking out Wilderness Lodge and coming by boat. Either way, I'm excited!
