Hey all-
I wandered over here and now I am dying to visit the fort.....

DH and I are no stranger to driving to WDW. We would love to rent a MH and drive down from Iowa. Can anyone recommend a good company to rent from? It is only DH and I so we do not need a big one we do not currently have a vehicle that we could use to hitch a camper to. I would also love to be able to bring our dog.

Any great time of year? We don't want summer... late fall, February?

Any suggestions are welcome! Thanks!

Go to www.campatthefort.com. The owner is an avid poster on this board and has had success renting to people coming to the fort.

I was thinking about a national rental company. I would like to rent one in Iowa (midwest) and drive it down to FL and then drive it back. Maybe I should try craig's list???

Try local RV dealers, some rent, if not, they can direct you to a rental company.

Depending on what you're looking for in terms of weather, things going on at WDW or holidays, there are lots of good times. We are not big on the heat or crowds, so our favorite times are...

Late Oct-early Nov (before Thanksgiving week) - F&W festival, lower crowds and generally mild weather (not too hot or too rainy)

First 3 weeks of December (week after Thanksgiving until the week before Christmas week) - All of WDW is decked out for the holidays and it's a super festive time to go. Crowds have been picking up a bit each year, but they're still in what I'd call the low-moderate range. Weather is *usually* mild and dry, but it can also be variable, and last year we saw evenings in the 30s a few times and then 80 degree days just a day or 2 later.

I always see postings on Craigslist. Try there...and not just in your area either.

If you are considering renting a Class C, we saw a lot of rentals issued by a company called El Monte when we were in the Utah, Wyoming and Montana area. There website is www.elmonterv.com but I would second the suggestion of the folks from Camp At the Fort if you would rather just drive there and have the RV already set up for you.

A co-worker of mine rented one with his dad and grandfather for a road trip (all three were veterans and were taking the grandfather to a veteran reunion). They enjoyed it but found it costly. I think in their case they spent somewhere in the range of 25 cents per mile in addition to the weekly cost.
