Camp Rock - Let down or as expected?

So, DD was eagerly anticipating the debut of Camp Rock along with a gazillion of other tweeners and pre-teeners. I asked her what she thought when it was over (I didn't watch it) and her only comment was "It was weird"

I was really looking forward to watching this movie, and I was definatly not disappointed in it. It was totally better than HSM.

My dd had 5 of her friends over for a Camp Rock party on Friday night and the verdict was it was good but did not live up to the hype it was given

My daughter is 8 and she liked it. I thought that it was just ok.

I wasn't crazy about the story, but the music and dancing were fun enough.

My DDs just the Jonas Brothers so I don't think they even paid attention to the story line.

I thought it was awful. The plot was just crap and the music was repetative and terrible.


Did any of the parents notice who the female music director was?

It was no other than 80's satire singer Julie Browne. Her hits included "Because I'm a Blonde", "Living in the 80's", "Earth Girls are Easy" (that was actually a movie with Geena Davis!) and "Homecoming Queen has a gun"!


Munchie's mom was the mom from Wizards of Waverly Place.

I'll be honest and say that if the Jonas Brothers weren't in it, I probably wouldn't have watched it and if I did, I probably would not have liked it. But I completely melt whenever Joe plays the guitar and/or sings so I was in love the entire movie. And I watched it 5 times in less than 2 days. And I paused and rewinded it a couple times in certain spots (Shane singing to Mitchie, Shane coming out of the lake, etc.) Oh, and I'm 18. LOL.

I didn't think it was a let down. My 11 & 13 yr old daughters really liked it.

My 7 year old liked it - I let him stay up late to watch it, so that added to its appeal I think!

I thought it was lamer than HSM - at least that one has fun with itself - Sharpay is over-the-top, and adds humor to HSM, while the "bad" girl in this one is really mean, and then we're supposed to feel sorry for her... also, the whole plot was a problem for me - when Mitchie gets banned from final jam, why not make it a punishment for the bad thing she actually did (lie all through the movie), rather than a punishment for the bad thing she didn't do (steal the bracelet)?

DD9 loved it and said it was better than HSM, and she was crazy over those!

I don't think it has the staying power of HSM. Camp Rock does feature the new Disney flavor of the month, but I do think they dropped the ball a bit in this one.

It seemed like it was made in a rush and could have been better. HSM was made in a rush as well, but it does make fun of itself like a PP mentioned. The characters in Camp Rock are not well developed which makes it only an OK movie.

The songs itself are reaching into all genres in hope to find a fit. One song was very hip hoppy and the other was a power ballad, so there wasn't a clear genre defined.

My daughters both said the same thing. Good, but not as good as they made it sound for the last how many months.

I knew about the MTV show (I watched it) but I wasn't sure how many other people did.. you know this is when they actually played music!

It was just ok. This is my 30 year old opinion - no kids - lol. I thought HSM 1 and 2 were both better. DH teases me relentlessly about this.

I think because the songs were done in performances and not incorporated into the movie like HSM. Does that make sense? Also, there was really only 1 song that I cared for.
