Camp at Fort if visiting Kennedy Space Center?

okay... this may sound odd, and may be a bit OT..

We generally visit Disney 3x's/year. Sometimes we take our 5'er to the Ft. other times, we stay a AK or WL. But at least once per year, we REALLY "DO DISNEY".. meaning... we all match shirts, I have the itinerary planned, we eat at TS everynight, do the shows, etc... like we did if we just went 1x per year.. the other visits are more casual.... do whatever strikes us, laid back kind of trips.

So... this year our big "DO DISNEY" is planned for Sept. followed by a cruise.

I have a 9 year old who is really "into" Space/NASA/Shuttles etc... his b-day is 8/7 which is conveniently between two launches at KSC. So... perfect b-day gift, I thought.. spend a couple days immersed in space, even if the launches are rescheduled/canceled, he'll still have a blast... then maybe do a day a Sea World.... whatever.

My question is: should we stay at Ft. Wilderness for THIS trip? I don't really "plan" to do any "Disney" then.. as we have our big trip in Sept.. don't want to "ruin" the anticipation, KWIM? We have AP's so we COULD go, if we wanted.

I know it's about an hour from the Fort to KSC. I don't mind the drive.

But, I don't know of any other campgrounds that we'd be happy at???? We did stay at Tropical Palms once, but I just visited their website, and all I could find was info @ their "cottages".. do they even have sites anymore?

So... Fellow Ft. Wilderness experts, would you stay at the Fort for this trip, or would you find something else and keep all the Disney 'til our Sept. trip?

Jetty Park is located at port Canaveral. It is a nice campground--nothing fancy. The beach is nearby--minutes to walk depending on your site location. You can watch the cruise ships coming out of Port Canaveral (Disney ships sail out of there)--you can fish off the pier and if you are there when there is a launch you can see it from the beach or pier of your campsite if you wish. It is less expensive than FW and would be a good base camp.

Let's see...FW or somewhere else...:scratchin...do I really need to answer that?
