Camera Regret?

Question about camera regret... We go to the World 2 to 3 times a year and I always carry my big DSLR Canon 5D camera. As much as I love my camera and my pictures we do not need any more of those same posed pictures in front of the major icons. The 3 of us have iPhones and these days all we same to take are candid, which I think my phone is enough. Will I regret not having my bog camera to much? My husband thinks I will, but I just really do not want to carry it, to be honest.

Have you ever regretted not having the big camera?

I wouldnt count on a camera phone but I agree a full scale SLR is a pain to carry. We take a decent point and shoot (a canon S100)

I wouldn't count on just your phone but if you're not taking anything but candid stuff I agree a nice point n shoot would probably be better than pulling around the 5D. I take my DSLR around b/c I like to walk around and take "artsy fartsy" shots and stuff like parades/shows. If I was just going in to goof around I'd probably just bring a Point n Shoot too.

Just a couple of weeks ago, I decided not to carry any camera to the parks for the last two days we were there. I don't regret it one bit. I didn't even take any phone pictures.

I had a fantastic time and felt so completely free! I feel like it freed up my senses to enjoy my surroundings more. It was wonderful seeing things and not having to take a picture, but just enjoying the moment.

If we lived far away, and once went once a year or so, I would probably still take my camera. What I have decided to do now is only take my camera to each park one day a year unless there is some kind of special event. I have plenty of pictures of the parks themselves. I will only take pictures to document changes in my family year to year.

Anymore it seems like I only use my phone for pictures. I haven't decided what we will be using in the parks for our trip. I've thought about taking our dslr to get some nice shots but its so big to carry around all day. We'll probably take one of our point and shoot cameras but I have a feeling I will end up mostly using my phone.

If you only use your dslr for the posed shots and know you won't be taking any this time I think you'd probably be fine with just using your phone.

I have been using my iPhone5 more and more on a daily basis (for photos and video, including super easy panoramics) and am fairly happy with the results. Much less work than using a point and shoot, so I doubt I would use that over the phone. With that said, I'm sure I'll always have either the dSLR or Mirrorless in some form with me at all times at the World. If space is an issue, I'll probably choose to carry the PEN that day, as it will also fit in my purse - it's about the same size as my point and shoot, actually.

I have found in most cases I regret it either way. I have a hybrid, so not as bulky as a DSLR, but not as slim or light as the phone or a point and shoot. When I've decided not to bring it, I usually end up wishing I had it. When I bring it, I'll end up taking all my pictures w/ my iPhone simply for convenience and regret having lugged the thing around with me all day.

The only exceptions are when we go to AK because without fail, I will take a ton of pictures on KS, and if we are doing something new...visiting New Fantasyland or visiting the Osborne Lights for the first time for example.

Also, with photopass photographers every few feet these days, as person doesn't have to carry a camera at all to get quality family pictures. Plus you can get all your on-ride photos.

I can envision the day that my camera doesn't even make the trip to Disney.

I still find some things to photograph that Photopass doesn't cover. But for many things, Photopass is the way to go. A nice castle background pic without crowds is hard to get otherwise. And I'm usually solo so I use PP if I want to be in frame. But I've taken photos at DLR using phone camera apps that I really love. You can apply effects on the spot and retake if they don't work. Most tech sites are including stand alone cameras as going the way of the dinosaur (small d) except for professionals.

The disney photo pass is extremely expensive, I have a Nikon dslr and take 1500 or more photos every trip, almost none of them are in front of the major landmarks, there is so much more to shoot, and would never consider going without it

You take your camera to get those precious moments to look back years later...I do travel photography and I cant imagine going to Disneyworld without my DSLR. You can get great pics with an iPhone or small camera - outside...however, lots of the most amazing pics are indoors on rides, etc.. and that is where the iPhone and "cheaper" cameras breakdown (blur, blow out with a flash, too dark, etc.). If you have a good DSLR and it is a "better brand" that takes good indoor pictures (good high ISO quality), its a no brainer for me to bring it....

If your camera is bulky, you never use the strap that comes with the camera as dangling cameras around your nick or holding on to it with your wrist is a pain... I use a Rapid Strap and cant imagine going anywhere without it on my DSLR and when its hooked to a rapid strap, its not a pain at all.

When I get tired of taking the big bag of gear I just take the camera and one lens on a given day. I would regret not having it with me.

We leave the SLR home but I would not rely on a camera phone. We have a Panasonic point and shoot which also does video and is 100% waterproof - we can take in in the pool and to the waterparks and even use it underwater. It takes fabulous pictures.

I enjoy having a phone for "on the go photos" when my point and shoot battery is dead. However at a place like Disney I would prefer to have at least a point and shoot as well as my phone. I have a Samsung Galaxy note 2 but last time I went I had droid x and that took eh shots

I don't think I-Phone pictures are that great. They are good for an unexpected moment picture but for vacation I would bring a point & shoot. Mine is small enough to fit in the palm of my hand.

Those are awesome images! I have a cannon T3i DSLR and an iphone 5 and I can't get inside images to come out that clear! I always have a problem with inside photos! I have a speedlite too but no flash photography so that doesn't help me!

Okay thanks for everyones opinions, while I know that I will bring my camera some, I will not bring it every day.

We as a family are more interested in the photos that have us in them, rather than photos of the park itself. Although, those are certainly some gorgeous photos.

As for my phone, I know that it does not take photos as good as my camera, but I think that sometimes I get caught up in taking pictures of the moment and not enjoying the moment. That is what I am trying to prevent.

I've always regretted not having a DSLR with me -- DD and DW have 10+ MP point-n-shoots, and their pix come out great, but I've always wanted to get creative.

Now that I finally have a DSLR, I can't wait to get back...
