When you need info on capturing memories of family vacations .... always go to a scrapbooker.

I know there is a photography thread and I have read the posts. It seems like most people there are pros, and spend a lot of money (1000's) on their cameras.

Here is my story. We are going to WDW is 3 wks. And I have lost my camera. Seriously it is no where to be found. I think I might have lost it at a school function. I will not even mention the 400+ pictures on the card. Most are on my computer but not the latest Xmas pics. I am heartbroken.

Now I must buy a new camera. Trying to stay on budget, but need a decent camera. I refuse to miss those memories.

So I need some suggestions on cameras - brand, model, price range. I am concerned with not missing the moment. So the delay when I hit the button to when the pic actually take. I dont know if this called shutter delay?

What camera do you love?

First of all, I am so sorry the camera is MIA. I would be heartbroken too.

My last three cameras were Sony digitals. I love them and wouldn't go with another brand. The first I bought in 2001, it was huge! Delay time was okay, but not really quick enough for my non posing daughter. The second I bought was the Sony Point and Shoot. I carry it all the time in my purse. DH takes it when he wants a camera because he can loop it on his belt. This summer I bought the Sony a200 SLR. I LOVE it. There is absolutely no delay time. It can catch that gone in a flash smile of DD's. DH doesn't like as much as the little one because it is bigger. I purchased it at Best Buy for about $399.99.

I would recommend going to a Best Buy or Staples to hold and get a feel of the cameras. I was fortunately because the salesperson really knew cameras. But I always have to hold the camera to see how it feels for my hands.

Take a deep breath, focus on getting a new camera, and enjoy your vacation, but whatever you do, take on vacation the user's manual for your new camera.

Hugs!! I'm so sorry the camera is MIA! I have a Kodak Eashy Share Z740. I'ts great.. Small..have 10x zoom... lots of other features... got it for 200 or so...

I agree w/ testing them out at the store... love mine... I have taken it on 3 disney trips and haven't been disappointed yet!!!

Oh, so sorry about your camera!!

I've been looking too. My kids got nice Kodak easyshares for Christmas. They were a BestBuy.com special on black friday. I love it, but can't get one of them to give it to me :(

Mine is a Kodak easyshare, older model (like one of the first digital), and I like the pics it takes, and the features, but not the size.

This website has reviews, you might find helpful also http://www.digitalcamera-hq.com/dig...ratings.html?page=1&sort=relevance&order=desc

And I always check amazon and bestbuy for reviews too. Then I check Walmart for price...

Have a great trip!

I have a Canon S5IS and abosolutely love. My mom even gave us he Rebel for one like mine. It has a sports mode that we use at Disney and the pics are great. Also the zoom is amazing. It was close to $300 I think.

I love my Kodak Easyshare Z1085! 10x zoom, small, light, easy to hookup to the computer. It also has the new instant picture fixer technology in the camera (A lifesaver!!). I used to have to use the little magic wand button to fix the lighting/brightness of my pictures all the time - and the camera is smart enough to do it now automatically!

Aww MIA is awful. Mine broke. It was a cannon power shot S215. We bought it 3 years ago. Been the best camera ever! It was around $400. But something is wrong with the memory card slot. :sad1:

I have taken that and my moms Samsung S730 to disney. I like having 2 cameras. One for DH one for me. since it never fails that one has the camera somewhere else. Its small and takes great pics one handed. my camera is too bulky for that. espically juggling a baby in the other arm.

I have been looking at the Nikon and Cannon Point and Shoots, the small ones. The reviews on the Cannons were higher than the Nikons. I think i have picked the Cannon A1000 model retails around $169-$189 just waiting on a better price.
If you have an actual camera shop nearby I would go in there and ask what would be best. Then go to best buy and get it cheaper.

Sorry about your camera - I would be crying!

I've had Nikon & Canon cameras (my DH has a Canon DSLR) but I've fallen in love with Olympus. I have the SP560 with 18x zoom and it's wonderful, takes sharp photos with no lag time. Lag time was my major complaint with the Nikon and I had a Nikon SLR so I was a Nikon fanatic. I like the fact that I don't need a special lens, like my DH does, for taking close photos of my DDs at cheer or dance competitions. I've taken great close ups at concerts as well. I'll be glad to e-mail you some of the samples if you PM me your addy. My only "complaint" is that it's not a camera to put into your jean pockets but that's offset by the fact that I can take great photos.

We buy all our cameras from www.bhphotovideo.com - love the fact that they don't charge tax and have super fast shipping. I ordered an underwater Olympus at 11 am and it was in my house within 48 hours (& no, I didn't pay for expedited shipping). If you need to talk to them about a camera, you can call and they can actually answer your question so they have knowledge of cameras as opposed to what we have experienced at the "box" stores which is they don't!

Have fun shopping! Hope you find the camera you want!

Thanks for the responses. You guys have some great points and have given me somewhere to start. I used to review website and started doing some searching. I have a shopping trip planned for Monday.... unless I find my trustworthy RED Kodak. Maybe I will place a Lost & Found ad:\

Lost 1yr old trustworthy friend. Red color and smudges on the screen. Contains 400+ family memories. Please return to.....

Really if I lost it at a sports or school event it was not labeled. So if anyone found and wanted to return it to the owner, how could they.

Mental Note- I will put my name on the camera or cord the first day when I bring the new baby home. Have you labeled your camera?

Absolutely I label my camera - with a sticky address label. I also have a card containing cell phone number that I photograph first. I download my photos every night, too, so in the event it does turn up missing, I only lose the one days photos.

Sorry you lost yours. UGH!!! I got a new point and shoot for xmas. The Canon Powershot. I  it!!!! No shutter delay, but when the flash is on a little orange light comes on first. It always makes my son blink and his eyes are closed in the pictures. Not sure about the price because it was a gift. For SLR we have the Canon Rebel xti. I also LOVE this camera. It has alot more capabilities and is a bit more advanced.

Have a great trip and don't forget about PhotoPass!!!!

What started this thread.. lost camera.. it was a Kodak Easy Share M853

I did purchase one of the suggested models. It is a Kodak Easy Share Z1285. Went to store - tried it out. Little or no delay with a great zoom (12 mega pixels).

And the drama continues. 2 days after I purchased one of my 5 yr olds runs up "look what I found" It is the MIA camera. I am so happy. It was under the back of the couch in the playroom. I started looking at the most recently snapped pics and it was obvious my other 5 year old had played photographer. Self portraits, pics of new racetrack, favorite teddy bears and then a bunch of finger pics and then a bunch of nothing..... So of course "Jacob - did you have my camera? Did you take pictures?" and then the great waterworks "I'm sorry I broke it." blah blah... :sad2: :sad2: He hid the camera because he thought he broke it and didnt want to get in trouble. He said he felt so sad because he knew I had been looking for it. I did not not delete the pictures. I think it will be a great scrapbooked story.:lmao: :lmao:

I have decided to keep new camera - I just love it. So because of a naughty child I treated myself to a new camera. There went my trip budget. The pressure is off - the budget is blown so I will feel free to do more damage.

Cameras are ready to go to disney tomorrow!:dance3: :dance3:

Have fun! It's always good to have a spare camera with you in case your battery dies, you and your family split up, etc! I always carry a spare with me!:rotfl2:

Well, at least you found it!! I'd take both cameras and get the kids perspective of the world! We took 3 cameras and one was dedicated to the kids... the view of their world was cute!!! Not a lot of useable photos...but there are some!!!

I'm still weeding through our photos 3600+ from our trip in June 08!

I love letting the kids use a camera at Disney, you get some different angles to things! Congrats on finding your camera! And the new one! And going to Disney! Have a great trip!

I have the Canon S5 IS too. The most important thing to me, in a camera, is the optical zoom. I have never wished I had more megapixels so I could print a wall poster of a pic, but even with the 12X zoom, I've wished I had more!
